When I first got into self-hosting and invested in a NAS that could serve dedicated storage pools to all my devices, I built what I thought was an impressive setup. Running Linux on a Windows machine means two things. You either need to create a virtual machine that can share the system resources and run a Linux distribution inside it. Or, you can avoid Type 2 hypervisors and dual-boot Linux alongside Windows. Both of these methods let you learn the Linux way, although dual-booting means direct access to the system kernel and hardware.

When I hop into my vehicle, I connect my phone to one of the available USB ports, and Android Auto fires up after a few seconds on the center display. The default screen is perfectly fine, showing Symfonium on the left and a large Waze pane on the right.
