In the week she spent testing it, my colleague Jennifer Pattison Tuohy said the countertop appliance quickly became her family’s “favorite kitchen gadget,” making drinks taste better and even encouraging her kids to stay hydrated. It’s simple to use and makes ice quickly, churning out up to 38 pounds of chewable nugget ice per day. Setup is relatively simple, too, as it doesn’t require plumbing. The machine also supports Wi-Fi, allowing you to schedule ice production or control it with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.While the ice maker does require a lot of maintenance, GE also added some upgrades aimed at making it slightly easier, including a scale-inhibiting water filter, a reusable air filter, and built-in alerts that let you know when it’s time to sanitize or descale. We knew it was coming for a while now. While the Nvidia Control Panel had enjoyed years of giving gamers driver updates and customisation over how the GPU works, we saw the first glimpses of the Nvidia App. It was pitched as the successor to the Control Panel, and while it wasn't quite ready to supercede it on release, Nvidia slowly began moving features over to the App.

On Tuesday, NASA announced several upcoming lunar missions to the Moon's South Pole region. These missions will pave the way for the crewed Artemis landing slated for 2028, starting with three Moon Base missions NASA says are "the first of more than a dozen missions that will be announced this year."Moon Base I, launching "no earlier than fall 2026," will use Blue Origin's Blue Moon Mark 1 Endurance lander to bring NASA payloads to the Moon, including the Stereo Camera for Lunar Plume-Surface Studies instrument and the Laser Retroreflective Array. The Fitbit app is no more. Along with the launch of the new Fitbit Air (which you can expect a full review of once we've spent more time with it), Google has officially replaced it with Google Health, as previously announced, and many of the responses we've seen so far are full of confusion, frustration, and requests to get the old app back. One post on Reddit calls out a common issue, saying, "I can't even completely fill up my home screen. They only have 2 large tiles available and I can't just scroll down to see everything." Visual Studio Code (or one of its many forks) is used by a huge number of developers, and the thing that makes it worth using isn't really the editor at all. It's the extensions which make it applicable to practically any workflow or language. There's one for seemingly every language and every framework, and extensions that transform it from a simple editor to a productivity tool instead. Installing those extensions is a single click from a marketplace Microsoft runs, and that marketplace is the whole reason VS Code won. But it's also the part that security researchers have been sounding alarm bells over for years.

We all know Windows 11 isn't perfect, but some of its quirks are most noticeable when you have a multi-monitor setup. For instance, something as simple as finding your cursor can get annoying when you have three monitors arranged neatly on your desk. Then, there are the headaches that come with managing windows across multiple displays. When you think about how much time you spend organizing windows before you can get to work, you'll wonder why Windows still makes you do so much of it manually.

Synology network-attached storage (NAS) enclosures are among the best in the business, thanks in part to the operating system running on the turnkey devices. Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) is one of my favorite prebuilt NAS systems, as well as a shortlisted pick for best overall NAS OS. It's absolutely brilliant for most people using NAS. While not perfect, often limiting enthusiasts and those seeking more advanced functionality, it's ideal for beginners and those who simply wish to use their NAS to store some files and run a package or two. I have since moved my primary NAS to a custom DIY system, but I miss how amazing DSM still is.

New Windows patches are supposed to promise stability and security, and fresh GPU drivers should be synonymous with better performance and optimization. In 2026, however, that "Download and Install" button feels like a random tile in Minesweeper, where you hope for the best and click.

Running self-hosted LLMs can easily turn into an endless upgrade cycle. One week you are testing new quants, the next week you are comparing benchmarks, context lengths, and VRAM usage, all hoping the next model will finally make your setup feel reliable. I went through the exact same phase. Every problem felt like a hardware or model-quality problem waiting to be solved with a bigger download.

You might have a solid, older desktop PC that handles tasks decently, but your storage needs are growing, and modern games and apps demand significantly faster speeds than old SSDs can provide you with. When looking down at your motherboard, you realize the nightmare: there are zero M.2 slots on the board, or the single M.2 slot you do have is locked to slow PCIe 2.0 speeds, which are barely faster than SATA drives.

Although the early Raspberry Pi units didn’t rank too high on the performance front, you’d often find folks relying on it for entry-level server tasks. Now, I’m well-aware that the Raspberry Pi wasn’t designed for home lab experiments, but these pint-sized boards were (and still are) more than enough to handle a couple of QoL containers, run cheap non-transcoding media servers, and even support Home Assistant setups involving a handful of devices.
