I install this free open-source backup tool on every Windows PC and Mac I own
I have lost important files before, and I never want to repeat that mistake. Since I regularly switch between my Windows desktop and MacBook, having a reliable backup system on both machines is essential.

Valve is introducing a major new feature for Steam achievements called "achievement sets" that lets developers list different groups of achievements for a base game and DLCs."In games that support sets, you still unlock achievements by playing the game as usual," Valve says. "But when you browse what you have unlocked afterward, Steam will break the long list of game achievements into the developer-created sets, making it easier to see what you have completed and to find other related achievements you can unlock next." Achievement sets have their own progress bars, and if you finish a set, you'll get a "set complete" trophy that's visible …Read the full story at The Verge.

You can still build a 1440p gaming PC for under $1,000, and it’s easier than you think
Looking at prices for brand-new PC components, it's difficult to see how someone on a budget could put together a new rig capable of high framerates at 1080p, let alone 1440p gaming. Everything is significantly more expensive than it was a year ago, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to...
Looking at prices for brand-new PC components, it's difficult to see how someone on a budget could put together a new rig capable of high framerates at 1080p, let alone 1440p gaming. Everything is significantly more expensive than it was a year ago, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to put together a decent machine. The pre-owned market was the best way for budget builders to make an entry into PC gaming before the memory crisis, and it still is today. It'll take some patience and a little bit of trust, but it's more doable than you might expect.

After a month with VS Code’s new agents window, I stopped caring about Cursor

I’ve used VS Code for half a decade, but recently I’ve been switching between it and Cursor. VS Code is a good editor, but it lacks some of the agentic features that draw me to Cursor. I use Cursor extensively for development alongside Claude, and its own Composer models are quite good for coding. VS Code already supports agentic workflows through extensions like Claude Code and Codex, along with GitHub Copilot. You can get a lot done with these tools, but the overall experience hasn’t quite matched what I get from Cursor.

The tech backlash is now in theaters
Though movies about disruptive tech founders are nothing new, 2026 has been unusually stacked with features that take a much more critical look at how Silicon Valley is reshaping our reality. Though movies about disruptive tech founders are nothing new, 2026 has been unusually stacked with features that take a much more critical look at how Silicon Valley is reshaping our reality. Aaron Sorkin's The Social Reckoning frames Mark Zuckerberg as a robotic villain whose ambitions are destabilizing society. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim's You Can See Everything paints a damning picture of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes as she prepares for her ongoing stint in prison. After years of being widely celebrated as a visionary, you can see how the larger narrative around Elon Musk has shifted in projects like Alex Gibney's Musk docume …Read the full story at The Verge.

Your Proxmox VM is probably emulating hardware that hasn’t existed for decades

Every time you spin up a virtual machine in Proxmox, the creation wizard makes a stop at the System tab that most people just click straight through. One of the fields there is Machine, and unless you change it manually, it defaults to i440fx, which tells QEMU to build your VM around emulating an Intel chipset from the 90s. Intel's 440FX chipset launched in 1996 for the Pentium Pro, and there is a much more modern option in the list, so why doesn't Proxmox use it?

President Donald Trump posted a series of photos on Truth Social showing off renovations to the White House - but one of them appears to be modified with AI. The picture, which compares an old White House column to a "restored" one, has several discrepancies and was flagged by Google's AI detector as "made or edited with OpenAI."As pointed out by users on Reddit, the picture of the "restored" column has an uneven number of steps on both sides of the structure. The number of steps also doesn't match up with the ones in the "before" photo. Additionally, the before and after photos appear nearly identical in angle and detail; the reflection i …Read the full story at The Verge.
