Windows users will no longer be forced to run automatic updates in the middle of a game or a busy day. Microsoft is rolling out some long-awaited changes to Windows Update to users on its Dev and Experimental Windows Insider channels, including the ability to indefinitely delay updates up to 35 days at a time. Last month, Microsoft announced a slew of upcoming changes to improve Windows 11 and address some of users' most common complaints about the platform. Chief among the company's planned fixes was making updates less disruptive. In its blog post on Friday, Microsoft says you'll be able to "extend the pause end date as many times as you …Read the full story at The Verge.

Claude’s Projects feature replaced my notes, bookmarks, and browser tabs overnight

Claude has been having a big moment lately, and it’s not just hype. It’s genuinely one of the most useful AI tools I’ve come across. It’s long stopped being just a tool I open on occasion - I now practically live in it. It’s there when I need ideas for...
Claude has been having a big moment lately, and it’s not just hype. It’s genuinely one of the most useful AI tools I’ve come across. It’s long stopped being just a tool I open on occasion - I now practically live in it. It’s there when I need ideas for the novel I’m chipping away at, references for design projects, random research I actually need to retain, literally everything that I’d normally spend four times as long Googling or procrastinating on. It became my default first stop for a weird spread of things.

I ignored IPv6 for years, and now my home network is paying the price

Until recently, IPv6 was perpetually on my "deal with it later" list. I'm sure it's the same story for many home lab enthusiasts. We all know IPv6 exists, and that IPv4 is living on borrowed time, which has been continually extended by various NAT workarounds that were never meant to...
Until recently, IPv6 was perpetually on my "deal with it later" list. I'm sure it's the same story for many home lab enthusiasts. We all know IPv6 exists, and that IPv4 is living on borrowed time, which has been continually extended by various NAT workarounds that were never meant to be permanent fixes. As long as everything on my network kept working, IPv6 felt easy to ignore. Then, my ISP quietly transitioned to IPv6, and I realized it left a security hole in my firewall rules that I hadn't anticipated.

PC performance comes down to more than just a few small tweaks, but there are small setting changes that can make a big difference to your system's ability to churn out frames or blaze through productivity tasks. None of the items on this list are asking you to set aside a weekend to completely reinstall your OS, repaste your CPU and dust out your computer, but instead, they're changes that take one or two clicks that give a noticeable bump in FPS, clean up frametimes and latency, and make your system feel a bit snappier overall.

Proxmox’s real advantage isn’t the platform, it’s what the community built around it

Proxmox isn’t the only serious option for a home lab, and that’s exactly why I think this point matters. You can build a great setup around TrueNAS, Unraid, plain Debian, or a carefully maintained Docker host if that’s what fits the job. None of those are fake alternatives, and none...
Proxmox isn’t the only serious option for a home lab, and that’s exactly why I think this point matters. You can build a great setup around TrueNAS, Unraid, plain Debian, or a carefully maintained Docker host if that’s what fits the job. None of those are fake alternatives, and none of them need to be dismissed just to make Proxmox look better. But once you have to actually live with your setup day after day, Proxmox starts to stand out less for the platform itself and more for everything around it.

Take 50% off this beast of a router, plus get a free $80 Xbox gift card

Want to get the best results from your network? A new router might be the answer. A router provided by an ISP isn't going to be the end of the world, but it won't get you the best results if you're looking for them.

Let's say you've just spent $2,000 on a high-end OLED, but the picture still looks off, and you can't really figure out why. It's either too dim during the day, or movies look like they were filmed on a cheap 90s camcorder. The culprit is that manufacturers have to meet strict energy regulations and compete with bright neon lights on retail shelves. This leads to vivid modes and energy-saving features that kill the premium experience.
