Windows 11, just like previous versions of Windows, comes in multiple editions (sometimes called SKUs). Each edition offers different features meant for various types of users, though most Windows 11 SKUs are lesser-known editions designed for enterprise scenarios. For the general public, there are two main editions you'll find Windows 11 Home and Windows 11 Pro. As the name suggests, Windows 11 Pro is the more feature-rich edition, but most laptops come with the Home edition. In this guide, we'll show you how to upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Pro, and why you might want to do so.

My original Framework Laptop 16 review unit, next to its replacement. In January, I spent two weeks with the most modular notebook ever made: the Framework Laptop 16. It’s a gadget nerd’s dream: you can swap out its keyboard, touchpad, ports — even its entire discrete GPU. You can transform it from a sleek work laptop to a decent gaming machine in two minutes flat, one which charges with the world’s first 180W USB-C power adapter. But at the time, I gave the Framework Laptop 16 a 5 out of 10. The product gave me multiple Blue Screens of Death, glitched, felt flimsy in places, and ran hotter and louder than its performance would suggest. Six months later, with a new unit and new firmware, I’m feeling a bit better! Not good enough to give it my full recommendation, but enough to raise its score to 6 out of... Continue reading…

The first wave of Copilot+ PCs is finally hitting the market, and based on general opinions so far, it's been pretty well received. Laptops powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus have a lot of exciting things, including excellent performance and efficiency, and most notably a powerful NPU with 45TOPS of performance.

The Verge The startup's web scraping has raised more than a few eyebrows. Continue reading…

Have you ever wanted to upgrade your CPU, only to discover that to upgrade it, you'd need a new motherboard? It's a frustrating experience, but there are some good reasons why companies upgrade their CPU sockets, even if some CPU makers change their sockets more frequently. While sticking to one socket is great for consumers, it can hamper innovation in the long run.

Google introduces a new ChromeOS update for users on Stable Channel every month, and June is no exception. The Mountain View tech giant has started rolling out Chrome OS 126 with a plethora of new features, making it a lot easier for people to set up their Chromebook devices and more.

For running Large Language Models (LLMs) locally on your computer, there's arguably no better software than LM Studio. LLMs like ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot all run in the cloud, which basically means they run on somebody else's computer. Not only that, they're particularly costly to run, and that's why all of them have a paid tier option that'll set you back $20 a month. However, LM Studio makes it possible for you to run a ton of different models locally, and now it's here officially for Snapdragon X Elite laptops.

Released back in 2000, the Windows Millennium Edition was a weird operating system. Its predecessor, Windows 98, was marketed as the last DOS-based Windows 9x operating system for home users. Despite its unstable nature at the time of its launch, the second version of Windows 98 was still going strong, and there wasn't much of a need for another OS that relied on the DOS kernel in the consumer space.

MacBooks are some of the most popular and best laptops on the market. There's a good reason why they're so popular, and even more so now with Apple Silicon delivering excellent performance and power efficiency. But a good laptop is more than what you get at launch; it's also measured by how long it lasts and for how long you can rely on it. So you may be wondering how long your MacBook model will be supported and will last you.

Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge The NFL has been hit with a $4.7 billion verdict in a class action antitrust lawsuit filed on behalf of residential and commercial customers who paid for its Sunday Ticket package on DirecTV from 2011 through 2022. Originally filed in 2015 by the Mucky Duck sports bar, the lawsuit claimed that the league and its teams had conspired to give DirecTV an illegal monopoly on out-of-market games until YouTube took it over, starting with the 2023 season. The plaintiffs noted that other leagues distributed live, out-of-market games through multiple providers instead of just one exclusive partner like the NFL and argued during the case that the setup not only inflated the price of Sunday Ticket but also forced viewers to pay for games during... Image: The New York Times Strands, The New York Times’ very good word search game, has been officially added to the NYT’s Games app on iOS and Android. For me personally, this is huge. Strands has become my favorite of the NYT’s games since it launched in beta in March, but I was annoyed that I had to bounce between the app and a browser to complete my daily Wordle, Connections, and Strands. Now, I can do all of the puzzles right in the app over my morning coffee. It’s the little things! Each Strands puzzle has a theme. That theme hints at the words you’ll need to find — including the “spangram” word that spans across opposite sides of the puzzle. Every letter in the puzzle is used for a themed word or the spangram. If you need some help, you can get hints by... Continue reading…
