The iPhone 15 has been one of the most intriguing smartphone releases this year. With a 6.1-inch OLED display and top-tier performance with the A16 Bionic chip, it ensures seamless multitasking and an overall smooth smartphone experience. The big changes this year include significantly slimmer display bezels, a USB-C charging port, and a better peak brightness of 2,000 nits.

Just weeks after Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 launch, MediaTek is here with the Dimensity 9300 with some surprising changes. Not only does it buck the trend of having three CPU clusters, it packs four big Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex A720 cores, too. Even crazier is that MediaTek is going big on AI, promising Stable Diffusion generation of under one second and support for LLMs of up to 33 billion parameters.

Image: The Verge A new CNN report about the MSN AI model’s news aggregation kicks off with examples of questionable editorial calls, like highlighting a story claiming President Joe Biden dozed off during a moment of silence for Maui wildfire victims (he didn’t), or an obituary that inexplicably referred to an NBA player as “useless.” An editorial staff of humans probably would've spotted the problems. But Microsoft’s system, which continues to feel more like a social experiment than a helpful tool after ditching human efforts in favor of algorithms a few years ago, did not. That these stories were picked by MSN’s AI is no better than a travel guide Microsoft said was created by its algorithm and reviewed by a human that suggested Ottawa tourists grab a... Illustration by Alex Castro / The Verge One hundred million people are using ChatGPT on a weekly basis, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced at its first-ever developer conference on Monday. Since releasing its ChatGPT and Whisper models via API in March, the company also now boasts over two million developers, including over 92 percent of Fortune 500 companies.OpenAI announced the figures as it detailed a range of new features, including a platform for building custom versions of ChatGPT to help with specific tasks and GPT-4 Turbo, a new model that has knowledge of world events up to April 2023 and which can fit the equivalent of over 300 pages of text in a single prompt.ChatGPT was widely seen as the fastest-growing consumer internet app of all time after its launch nearly a... Apple's all-new M3 chips have finally been announced, and the refreshed M3 iMac looks to be an excellent value. However, the Mac Mini also got an update in 2023, and as the most affordable Mac computer around, many are wondering if the Mini is worth considering over the iMac. So, should you go for the all-in-one or a compact mini-PC?

Apple's 24-inch iMac (M3, 2023) is easily one of the best Macs out there in 2023. The much-needed 2023 iMac refresh brings the company's latest silicon chip and faster Wi-Fi to the table, improving an already excellent desktop computer for those who prefer a stationary setup for working from home. I just wish the new 24-inch iMac had more ports, because the current selection is quite limited. You really only have a couple of Thunderbolt ports and a headphone jack, just like its predecessor. It's nothing a Thunderbolt dock can't solve, though, and there are plenty of them available on the market right now.

Illustration: The Verge Just as OpenAI is preparing for its first-ever developer conference, a significant ChatGPT update has leaked. According to The Decoder, leaked screenshots and videos show a custom chatbot creator with many of the same features already available in ChatGPT using GPT-4, like web browsing and data analysis. OpenAI will apparently also have a new marketplace where users can share their chatbot or browse those made by others. A user called Choi posted a summary of the rumored updates a few days ago. This morning, SEO tools developer Tibor Blaho shared a video of the UI for the feature in action, showing a GPT Builder option that lets users enter a prompt — an example reads “make a creative who helps generate visuals for new products.” — to... The company says it will also follow Google and Microsoft’s lead and begin protecting customers against copyright lawsuits. GPT-4 Turbo, currently available via an API preview, has been trained with information dating to April 2023, the company announced Monday at its first-ever developer conference. The earlier version of GPT-4 released in March only learned from data dated up to September 2021. OpenAI plans to release a production-ready Turbo model in the next few weeks but did not give an exact date.GPT-4 Turbo is cheaper to run for developersGPT-4 Turbo will also “see” more data,... Illustration: The Verge In Meta’s WhatsApp, users can generate stickers using AI prompts. The Guardian reported Friday that the AI model used to create those stickers sometimes generates images of children holding guns when prompted with “Palestine” and similar words. Meanwhile, according to the outlet, “Israel” prompts resulted in no such imagery.A month ago, Meta’s AI sticker generator started rolling out with the tendency to create inappropriately violent or crass imagery, including, yes, child soldiers. According to the article, an unnamed source said some of the company’s workers had flagged and escalated the issue with prompts related to the war in Israel. Meta spokesperson Kevin McAlister told The Verge via email that the company is addressing it,... Continue reading…

Universal Serial Bus (USB) has long been the standard we rely on for all kinds of connectivity with our laptops and even phones. However, despite the "universal" branding, USB became a bit segmented over time, with laptops relying on USB Type-A, while peripherals like printers had USB Type-B, and phones relied mostly on micro-USB (also Type-B). Thankfully, things have been becoming more standardized again with the introduction of USB Type-C, which is on all the best laptops, most phones, and many peripherals. And with USB4, it's now more powerful than ever.
