I’m automating my entire home network with Ansible

I'm not the best at remembering to back up my home lab, mainly because it doesn't tend to stay in one piece long enough. But I've been trying to work more automation into things, so that spinning up containers and VMs is auto, and I can focus on the things...

The $50 CPU cooler that beats your $150 AIO

Modern PC enthusiasts might make you feel as if your rig doesn't have a glowing 360mm radiator with an LCD screen that you can put a GIF of a dancing anime girl on; it'll feel unfinished. Liquid cooling has become a fashion statement, and for the vast majority of CPUs,...
Modern PC enthusiasts might make you feel as if your rig doesn't have a glowing 360mm radiator with an LCD screen that you can put a GIF of a dancing anime girl on; it'll feel unfinished. Liquid cooling has become a fashion statement, and for the vast majority of CPUs, whether it is Ryzen or Intel, a massive radiator is overkill that adds complexity, costs a lot, and does little to your overall performance.

Imagor is a self-hosted image gallery and editor, running entirely in your browser

I work with a lot of images. Every story I write receives nine or ten images at minimum, and I keep those for a long time after publication, just in case tweaks need to be made. As you might imagine, my Photos folder can become a bit unwieldy. For editing,...
I work with a lot of images. Every story I write receives nine or ten images at minimum, and I keep those for a long time after publication, just in case tweaks need to be made. As you might imagine, my Photos folder can become a bit unwieldy. For editing, the majority of the time, I just use Paint. I rarely need more advanced features. But despite the improvements in Paint — and it has definitely gotten better over the years — it still poses numerous small annoyances that I'd prefer to avoid.

Someone made Cyberpunk 2077 look like an awesome 80s VHS tape using Reshader

You know, I really love what Cyberpunk 2077 did for the genre as a whole, but there is a small part of me that craves that late 20th-century style. You know, the old Shadowrun systems where things still had that touch of 80s and 90s culture with a dash of...

Why your “fast” SSD still feels slow

It can be disappointing to realize that your high-end SSD, despite its impressive spec sheet, isn't delivering the snappy storage experience that the marketing numbers promised you. The benchmarks seem off, your file transfers drag, and you feel the sluggishness overcome your system, and you can't help but wonder why.

This Breath of the Wild VR mod is coming out real soon, but you will need a beefy PC

I don't think I could do the kind of athletics Link demonstrates in Breath of the Wild. I don't even mean the rock-climbing bits; I think I'd be reduced to a paste the first time I'd have to fight off three bokoblins at once. That's why I instead stay at...
I don't think I could do the kind of athletics Link demonstrates in Breath of the Wild. I don't even mean the rock-climbing bits; I think I'd be reduced to a paste the first time I'd have to fight off three bokoblins at once. That's why I instead stay at home and do all of my heroic deeds on the other side of a monitor. Just not built for that life.

Windows 11 is not a perfect operating system by any means, but it is the most popular one out there, so while I would love to recommend everyone switch to Linux, I know that can be hard. But even if you have to stay on Windows 11, there are parts of the experience that are just too annoying by default, but they can thankfully be fixed... as long as you have the right edition of Windows, that is.

2025 proved what the worst thing is about modern AAA horror games

I got the chance to review and enjoy more than a few of them, whether they came from big-budget studios or indie devs. But now that the year is coming to an end, a realization hits me harder than any scripted jump scare this year: modern AAA horror has a setting problem.

I spent less than $150 to build a Proxmox home server with an SBC

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need a powerful Xeon system for DIY projects. Sure, certain server tools favor overpowered hardware, but there are just as many platforms that work well on budget-friendly consumer-tier systems. Take Proxmox, for example. Capable of running on bulky enterprise-grade hardware, potato laptops, and everything...

My trade for convenience had a significant impact on my productivity. Though the intent is to read news, I end up dealing with other noise, distractions, and annoyances.
