In just the past couple years, the art TV category that's been dominated by Samsung's The Frame has seen growth, with additions from both TCL and Hisense. Now LG has announced its own entry, the LG Gallery TV. The TV will leverage the Gallery+ service that LG released earlier this year, which includes thousands of display visuals ranging from pieces of art to cinematic images to gaming scenes. Obsidian has been my main productivity app for months, but I decided to try replacing it with open-source tools to see whether it was really the best option. For a while, some of the apps worked fine, but in the end, I found myself coming back to Obsidian. It fulfills a variety of different purposes all in one application, and the centralized database of knowledge makes it even better. Obsidian might be a closed-source app, but many of its plugins are open-source, and it offers a variety of other open-source benefits.

When people talk about “rescuing” a PC, they usually mean one of two things: sometimes it’s a machine that won’t boot anymore due to corrupt updates, broken bootloaders, or a dying drive standing between you and your data. Other times, the PC still technically works, but it’s slow, abandoned, or headed for the recycling pile because its operating system has outlived its usefulness.

I'm sure you've encountered a point when moving files to a solid-state drive (SSD) suddenly grinds to an unexpected halt, and wondered what was causing this to take place. After all, the manufacturer likely promised considerably higher speeds for the SSD, which lured you into a false sense of hope with drive performance. The reasons for these slowdowns can vary depending on the SSD and wider system it's connected to, but for cheaper flash storage, it can be caused by the SLC cache. This can cause transfer speeds grind to a crawl, sometimes reaching figures you'd typically see with hard drives.

And every time you're forced to type it in to log into Steam, Xbox, or even your Apple ID, you probably wish you just used your first name, last name, and maybe a number.

Raspberry Pi has a huge collection of SBCs, each surpassing the older models. The Raspberry Pi 5 is the newest kid on the block, while the Pi Zero 2W is the latest in the Zero lineup. There's a high chance that if you love SBCs and building DIY projects, you might have collected several models. Some of them still have a couple or a few more years of official support, but they might not work great with the latest OS and self-hosted tools.

Technology is meant to become obsolete sooner or later. It has been the same story for storage media as we see newer, faster, and more efficient technologies replace the ones that came before. That said, some storage types continue to cling on even after their replacements have been on the market for years. They remain relevant for specific use cases or niche projects, defying time as well as conventional wisdom. We might all love our NVMe SSDs, Blu-ray discs, and external hard drives, but it's still impossible to break all ties with the storage devices we grew up with. And no, it's not just nostalgia that's keeping them alive.
