If you'd asked me a couple of years ago which machine I'd want for running large language models locally, I'd have pointed straight at an Nvidia-based dual-GPU beast with plenty of RAM, storage, and processing power. It's been the better part of a decade since I designed and built my last custom liquid cooled PC. I've still got it, in a box in the garage, as a reminder of projects that weren't always fully completed, hard-learned skills, and a community I'm still part of to this day.
