Trump escalates crackdown by designating ‘Antifa’ a domestic terror group

The Trump administration’s crackdown on perceived left-wing threats following the death of Charlie Kirk continued on Monday evening, with Donald Trump announcing an executive order titled “Designating Antifa as a Domestic Terrorist Organization.” The order directs federal departments and agencies to “investigate, disrupt, and dismantle any and all illegal operations — especially those involving terrorist actions — conducted by Antifa or any person claiming to act on behalf of Antifa, or for which Antifa or any person claiming to act on behalf of Antifa provided material support.”The impact of the order is unclear, as experts have noted that “domestic terrorism” isn’t recognized or sanctioned in the way foreign terror groups are. Additionally, “antifa” is an unstructured anti-fascist movement, as Trump-appointed former FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress in 2020 that antifa was not an organization, but a “movement or ideology.” Trump first said he would sign the order on Truth Social last week.Today’s order claims that “Antifa is a militarist, anarchist enterprise that explicitly calls for the overthrow of the United States Government,” with “coordinated efforts to obstruct enforcement of Federal laws through armed standoffs with law enforcement, organized riots, violent assaults on Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other law enforcement officers, and routine doxing of and other threats against political figures and activists.”Since Kirk’s shooting, there have been Republican commentators, politicians, and public officials calling for civil liberties crackdowns targeting speech and donations to liberal political causes. Today’s order goes hand in hand with the campaigns targeting employers, Big Tech companies, and late-night talk show hosts.

So much so, that it feels as if the writing is on the wall when it comes to the dominance of x86.

Tech companies are already burning through increasing amounts of electricity to train and run new AI models. And they're asking for a lot more electricity as they try to outcompete each other. That rising demand is already starting to reshape the energy system, with utilities scrambling to build out new gas plants and pipelines. But all these plans to reshape the US energy system could be based on an AI bubble. AMD Threadripper CPUs are surprisingly efficient for home labs

When one mentions an AMD Threadripper CPU and efficiency in the same sentence, it can draw some raised eyebrows. How on earth can a 64-core beast like the Threadripper 9980X be anywhere near efficient with a TDP alone of 350W? You can expect this CPU to draw up to 400...
When one mentions an AMD Threadripper CPU and efficiency in the same sentence, it can draw some raised eyebrows. How on earth can a 64-core beast like the Threadripper 9980X be anywhere near efficient with a TDP alone of 350W? You can expect this CPU to draw up to 400 watts of power through the socket at stock settings, but after using it in place of a few used enterprise rack servers, I've discovered it to be incredibly efficient, even compared to a few mini PCs.

Bluetooth dongles are pretty cheap devices, and nowadays, many PCs have them built in. However, as I've consolidated a number of my self-hosted services into one machine, the migration process has come across a few hiccups along the way. One of those relates to Bluetooth; the machine my Home Assistant box had previously been running on had an easily-passed through Bluetooth adapter to the Home Assistant VM, but the new server I've migrated to doesn't. That's when I realized that I could turn the Makerdiary nRF52840 MDK into a Bluetooth dongle.

Windows updates often land with all the fanfare of a software license agreement. They are unceremonious and disruptive, and so many users I know put them off until a convenient weekend, when the PC sits idle and updates. We tend to assume most of the changes are arcane, under-the-hood tweaks that, while important, don't change how we interact with our machines. However, I like to be proven wrong, and when I go snooping in menus and on Reddit, I see how Microsoft slips in some genuinely clever features that fly completely under the radar.
