The Elettrica’s motor can put out up to 1000 horsepower. | Image: Ferrari Meet the Ferrari Elettrica. Well, meet some of it. The Italian supercar maker lifted the hood on the technology that will power its hotly anticipated first electric vehicle, the Elettrica. At an event at its Maranello headquarters, Ferrari showed reporters the chassis and powertrain of the upcoming EV, including its battery pack and motors. No actual vehicle was revealed, though. Ferrari expects to reveal the completed car sometime next year, but has yet to settle on a formal name or form factor. (Apparently Elettrica is just a placeholder, but it could become the official name.) Some outlets speculated the EV could be a shooting brake, wagon, or small crossover, based on some of the camouflaged mules that have been spotted driving around Italy. But Ferrari did release some important details about its EV, such as a top speed of 193mph, an output of up to 1000 horsepower in boost mode, and 329 miles of range on the more-generous WLTP system. And rather than just faking an engine noise, as so many electric sports and muscle cars do these days, Ferrari will amplify actual vibrations from its powertrain to create a distinct sound. This works by mounting an accelerometer underneath the inverter to capture the vibrations of the motor and project them through a “proprietary algorithm,” as Ferrari says in its press materials. There’s a lot more to like if you’re a driving fan, including independent electric motors, rear-wheel steering, and an active suspension system that fully eliminates the anti-roll bar. With four doors and four-plus seats, the new EV will likely have more in common with Ferrari’s Purosangue SUV than other models in its lineup. This will also be the automaker’s first four-door vehicle ever. Of course, this is an EV that will be targeted at the new generation of rich kid, with Reuters reporting that the Ferrari Elettrica will likely cost at least €500,000 euros ($580,400). The chassis will be made with 75 percent recycled aluminum, while the fast-charging battery will be fully integrated into the floor of the vehicle for a low center of gravity. The Elettrica’s 15-module battery is comprised of a nickel-manganese-cobalt chemistry with a gross energy of 122kWh and cells supplied by SK On. The pack, though, is assembled by Ferrari itself. The company hasn’t shared an overall torque figure, but says it’ll accelerate from 0-62 mph (100 kph) in 2.5 seconds. Ferrari says it’ll be able to charge at up to 350 kW thanks to its 800-volt architecture. And there will be a system that simulates gear-shifting but actually controls the regenerative braking. Like other sports car brands, Ferrari has been slow to embrace electrification. The company has already delayed a second EV until 2028 because of lack of demand. Meanwhile, rival Lamborghini has delayed its first EV until 2029, citing fluctuating demand.

512GB microSD Express cards for Switch 2 are cheaper than ever right now

The 512GB card is on sale for $88.47 ($31 off) If you’re a Nintendo Switch 2 owner who mostly buys digital games as opposed to cartridges (like me!), its 256GB of internal storage will run out quickly. Buying a microSD Express card gives you more storage, though at a higher cost than most people likely want to pay. However, Lexar’s 512GB and 1TB microSD Express cards are currently selling at the lowest prices we’ve seen yet.The 512GB model is $88.47 ($31 off) at Amazon, or double the extra storage to 1TB for $157.96 ($62 off), also at Amazon. That’s only a little more expensive than a comparable cards from Onn, Walmart’s house brand, but those are frequently out of stock (including at the time of publishing). In general, these are the best prices we’ve seen yet on this pricey storage.Lexar microSD Express cardWhere to Buy: $119.99 $88.47 at Amazon (512GB) $219.99 $157.96 at Amazon (1TB)The number of games you can install to a microSD Express card depends on the size of the card you buy, of course, as well as on the games in your library. For example, Donkey Kong Bananza requires just 8.9GB, while Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition eats up 60.6GB. Regardless, having extra space for digital games will likely be necessary at some point, even if it’s not right now. Here’s another reason why you should consider buying one, especially while they’re cheaper: several publishers are opting for Nintendo’s Switch 2 Game-Key cards, which look like cartridges, but are effectively keys that unlock a download and authenticate your system to play it. So, even if you’re buying a physical cartridge of a new game, you may need to rely on the extra storage space afforded by a microSD Express card to let you play it.

Motherboard features I care about a lot more than the chipset

When you're buying a motherboard, the chipset is a shorthand for the kind of features and quality you can expect. A B650 or B850 chipset will entail a relatively reduced feature set compared to an X670 or X870 chipset. A higher-end chipset might give you access to more Gen5 lanes and universal PCIe 5.0 connectivity, but, for most people, the real differences between motherboards lie in features like high-quality VRMs, decked-out I/O, and onboard Wi-Fi, and these aren't tied to the chipset.

The redesign - led by former Microsoft design chief Ralf Groene, whom Amazon Devices & Services head Panos Panay coaxed out of retirement - included two new Echo Show smart displays. Windows is still the world’s dominant desktop operating system, but that dominance is being tested. What was once a platform built around efficiency and choice now feels increasingly bloated, ad-filled, and inconsistent. You can’t open the Start menu without seeing a suggestion you didn’t ask for, or browse your files without feeling like you're being watched, or at worst, sold a service. If Microsoft wants to stop users from jumping ship to Linux, it’s not about reinventing Windows, it’s about fixing what people already hate about it.

YouTube opens ‘second chance’ program to creators banned for misinformation

YouTube is now giving some creators, including those who were banned for spreading covid and election misinformation, a chance to make a new channel, according to a blog post. Under political pressure, the company had said last month that it was going to set up this pilot program for “a subset of creators” and “channels terminated for policies that have been deprecated.” YouTube said in a letter to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), whose congressional commission issued multiple subpoenas to the company, that the opportunity would be available to creators banned for “repeated violations of COVID-19 and elections integrity policies that are no longer in effect.”In 2020, YouTube announced that it would remove videos with covid vaccine misinformation and later expanded its policies to ban vaccine misinformation. After the January 6th insurrection at the Capitol, YouTube also said it would give a strike to channels spreading 2020 election misinformation and suspended President Trump from making new uploads. But the company lifted the restrictions on Trump’s account and dropped some of its covid misinformation policies in 2023, and it recently loosened its content moderation policies more broadly to “reflect the new types of discussion and content” it sees on the platform.“YouTube continues to enable a diversity of perspectives and believes creators should be able to openly debate political ideas on the platform,” the company said in its letter to Rep. Jordan.Last month, YouTube also said it would pay $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump in 2021 over the ban. $22 million of the settlement is set to be used to help build a new White House ballroom. Its parent company, Alphabet, had lawyers in court earlier this month defending its Google ad-tech monopoly against Trump’s Department of Justice. The new pilot program kicks off today and will roll out to “eligible creators” over the “next several weeks,” YouTube says. “We’ll consider several factors when evaluating requests for new channels, like whether the creator committed particularly severe or persistent violations of our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, or whether the creator’s on- or off-platform activity harmed or may continue to harm the YouTube community.”The pilot won’t be available if you were banned for copyright infringement or for violating YouTube’s Creator Responsibility policies, the company says. If you deleted your YouTube channel or Google account, you won’t be able to request a new channel “at this time.” And YouTube notes that if your channel has been banned, you won’t be eligible to apply for a new one until one year after it was terminated. “We know many terminated creators deserve a second chance — YouTube has evolved and changed over the past 20 years, and we’ve had our share of second chances to get things right with our community too,” YouTube says. “Our goal is to roll this out to creators who are eligible to apply over the coming months, and we appreciate the patience as we ramp up, carefully review requests, and learn as we go.”
