Hollow Knight: Silksong, Team Cherry’s sequel to Hollow Knight that has been in development for seven years, is releasing later this week for just $19.99. Silksong’s highly-anticipated launch on September 4th comes with a modest $5 bump over Hollow Knight’s original $14.99 price tag. While Team Cherry could have charged more for Silksong, it’s essentially pricing it the same as the original when you factor in inflation over the past eight years. The team revealed seven years ago that it kept the Hollow Knight pricing low to ensure as many people played it as possible. “$15 US is actually quite a bit of money for many people, especially in other countries than the US,” explained Team Cherry cofounder Ari Gibson in a 2018 Reddit post. “Ultimately, our main interest is that as many people as possible play our games, and we want to price them such that players can do so.”Four days until release! Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available on 4th September.Release times:7AM PT | 10AM ET | 4PM CEST | 11PM JSTGame price:USD $19.99 | EUR €19.99 | JPY ¥2300 pic.twitter.com/JeDmozItpX— Team Cherry (@TeamCherryGames) September 1, 2025The considerate choice on the pricing of Hollow Knight allowed millions of people to play the game, with the original selling more than 15 million copies. That’s made Hollow Knight one of the most successful indie video games ever, so a $19.99 price tag for Silksong could produce similar sales results — especially as it’s currently the most wishlisted game on Steam.Silksong is releasing at 7AM PT / 10AM ET / 3PM UK on September 4th. It will be available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, and Team Cherry has also struck a deal to include Silksong on Xbox Game Pass on day one.

I swapped Notion for this open-source alternative, and it’s been a game-changer

Notion has been my default workspace for years. I like how sleek and flexible it is, and almost everyone I know in tech swears by it. I built my own little systems inside it, from personalized dashboards to practical databases. But the thing with software that’s feature-heavy: it becomes a drag to use and causes more problems than it solves. The downsides started piling up, and I also disliked how dependent Notion is on an internet connection, even for the simple stuff.

Windows 11’s driver signature requirement is one of the best anti-consumer security features out there

Windows 11, the most-used consumer desktop operating system in the world, undoubtedly has its problems. Yet, despite those problems, it's the most refined version of the company's operating system, regardless of the unsavory additions that have seen many users either commit to Windows 10 for as long as possible or even make the jump to Linux instead. There's one specific aspect of Windows that has always bugged me, though, and it's Microsoft's long-standing policy of requiring drivers to be digitally signed before the operating system will load them.

This self-hosted, open-source tool has made me actually use my smart TV

If most of your viewing is on OTT platforms like Netflix, Max, or Hulu, you probably don’t need anything extra. But if you are someone like me who still watches a lot of live TV, you know the experience feels fragmented and limited even with a smart TV running Google TV. You often need separate apps or subscriptions to access sports, news, or local channels, and the built-in TV tuners are slow with minimal guides and little flexibility. Recording or pausing live broadcasts is either not supported or tied to proprietary restrictions. I almost gave up on live TV until recently (well, I am a little late to the party) when I discovered Tvheadend.

Is AI the end of software engineering or the next step in its evolution?

The first time I used ChatGPT to code, back in early 2023, I was reminded of "The Monkey's Paw," a classic horror story about an accursed talisman that grants wishes, but always by the most malevolent path - the desired outcome arrives after exacting a brutal cost elsewhere first. With...
The first time I used ChatGPT to code, back in early 2023, I was reminded of "The Monkey's Paw," a classic horror story about an accursed talisman that grants wishes, but always by the most malevolent path - the desired outcome arrives after exacting a brutal cost elsewhere first. With the same humorless literalness, ChatGPT would implement the change I'd asked for, while also scrambling dozens of unrelated lines. The output was typically over-engineered, often barnacled with irrelevant fragments of code. There were some usable lines in the mix, but untangling the mess felt like a detour. When I started using AI-assisted tools earlier this …Read the full story at The Verge.

Here’s why I’m stoked about tandem OLED monitors

OLED monitors have been at the top of the gaming display pyramid, but that doesn't mean the technology is perfect yet. OLED monitors have been at the top of the gaming display pyramid, but that doesn't mean the technology is perfect yet. All OLED panels suffer from lower brightness levels than LCDs, burn-in is an ever-present concern, and the HDR experience is inconsistent between models. Tandem OLED was unveiled as the next big innovation in OLED technology, and we're now seeing some excellent displays from the likes of LG, MSI, and Asus. I'm excited about this next stage of OLED monitors because tandem OLED looks like a big step toward removing the imperfections of OLEDs.

When you sign up to receive Internet service from an ISP, they'll usually provide a router and modem, or a combo unit of the two. While it will certainly get you online, it quietly leaves a few doors ajar for malicious actors, putting your security and privacy at risk. This is exceedingly common with routers provided by ISPs, but you can lock things down fairly easily with a few tweaks.
