During Apple’s WWDC keynote, when it introduced the new Liquid Glass design material for macOS Tahoe and all other Apple operating systems, it caught my attention right away. This isn’t just because it promises to be shiny and clean, but because it finally feels like the kind of translucent UI Microsoft dreamed about with Aero in Windows Vista. In this case, however, it’s fully realized. Vista introduced a lot of visual polish for its time with Aero, but the implementation was hindered by poor performance and incomplete execution. Liquid Glass, on the other hand, feels like it could finally be a vision that’s actually complete.

Many of us are quick to point fingers at our graphics cards whenever we experience stuttering or frame rate drops while gaming. After all, GPUs do all the heavy lifting when it comes to graphically demanding workloads, so it makes sense why we often think it's the culprit. Managing a non-graphical user interface operating system like DietPi or Raspberry Pi OS Lite has its fair share of advantages. You can conserve system resources and allocate them to an app or service that uses them better. I converted my Raspberry Pi Zero 2W into a downloading device sometime back, which was wonderful. But I always miss the fluidity of managing files via a File Explorer app instead of using a terminal for everything. Late Wednesday night at about 11PM CT, SpaceX was about to perform a static fire test of Ship 36, ahead of a planned 10th flight test for its Starship, when there was suddenly a massive explosion at the Massey’s Testing Center site. SpaceX says “A safety clear area around the site was maintained throughout the operation and all personnel are safe and accounted for,” and that there are no hazards to residents in the area of its recently incorporated town of Starbase, Texas. The site continues to burn at this time, about two hours after the explosion, with live camera feeds from NASASpaceflight and LabPadre showing the site, as well as the response from local fire departments. According to the people narrating on NASASpaceflight, the explosion occurred before the static fire test was supposed to start, and about 30 minutes or so after the propellant load sequence began. During a static fire test, the vehicle’s rocket engines fire while it remains attached to the launch mount, so Ship 36 was not scheduled to lift off just yet.The cause of this latest incident and the extent of possible damage to the test site are unknown, but it follows explosions during the seventh, eighth, and ninth Starship flight tests earlier this year. Fox 26 Houston says that, according to authorities, there have been no injuries reported, while KRGV news said that Brownsville Fire Department crews were responding to the incident.SpaceX issued this statement about the incident about 90 minutes after the incident in a post on X:On Wednesday, June 18 at approximately 11 p.m. CT, the Starship preparing for the tenth flight test experienced a major anomaly while on a test stand at Starbase. A safety clear area around the site was maintained throughout the operation and all personnel are safe and accounted for.Our Starbase team is actively working to safe the test site and the immediate surrounding area in conjunction with local officials. There are no hazards to residents in surrounding communities, and we ask that individuals do not attempt to approach the area while safing operations continue.This flight test would’ve continued using SpaceX’s “V2” Starship design, which Elon Musk said in 2023, “holds more propellant, reduces dry mass and improves reliability.” SpaceX is also preparing a new V3 design that, according to Musk, was tracking toward a rate of launching once a week in about 12 months.

During a recent PlayStation State of Play showcase, the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection was revealed to be coming in 2025. The compilation of games from the earlier years of the Mortal Kombat series is planned for a release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series consoles, and PC via Steam. The collection will bring together many of the classic arcade titles that people remember vividly from the 90s, along with a few other entries from the Mortal Kombat series. The developer Digital Eclipse is adding additional features, like rollback net code for online play, to give fans a meaty package of their favorite mature fighting game. But there's one glaring thing that the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection needs to include in order to truly feel like a complete anthology of the series.

Before I got my home NAS, I completely relied on various cloud services for everything, from photo and video backups to storing work files and scanned documents. It was convenient and just worked without me needing to set up the server and do the heavy lifting. Summer Game Fest 2025 was definitely a weird one, but even with everything going on outside, the games on display were still immaculate. My favorites, the ones that I live for, are small, unique, and made for pure love of expression. Being able to see that love so clearly on display, expressed through such painstaking and often thankless work, and also being able to show them to our audience who might not otherwise encounter them, is the defining privilege of my job.
