Thanks to certain beginner-friendly distros, Network-Attached Storage systems are easier to set up than ever, and you can get a budget-friendly backup server without shelling out wads of cash on the hardware. However, the complexity of these storage servers goes up a notch once you step into the nitty-gritty of NAS services. And I don’t mean virtualization or snapshots either – there’s a ton of cool services that can elevate your NAS experience, provided you’re willing to put in some extra effort to configure them.

One of the first things I used to notice while going through the specs of a CPU was its clock speed, because it seemed like an easy way to judge single-core performance at first glance. Modern CPUs list both base and boost clock speeds on the spec sheet, but until recently, I always prioritized the latter as a gamer. It felt natural to assume that higher boost clocks meant better performance in the games I play. After all, if one CPU claims to hit 4.8 GHz while another tops out at 4.5 GHz, the difference should be obvious, right?

Turns out, there is a Docker container to solve exactly that Docker container-finding problem.

Silent Hill is one of the most... interesting places in gaming, and I don't think I'll ever stop being fascinated by it. This survival-horror franchise is one that has always hovered between the mainstream and cult, existing in an Otherworld of its own. We've seen pretty much all sorts of horror sub-genres tried in gaming, but when it comes to psychological horror, Silent Hill has always been synonymous with it.

It's the beginning of a month, and that also kicks off a fresh wave of features and updates for several Microsoft apps and services. This time around, the software giant has started with one of its popular tools on Windows: Microsoft PowerToys.

I've never been a huge fan of cloud storage services in general. The idea that my access to my files is always dependent on an internet connection wasn't all that appealing, and the idea of paying a monthly fee for cloud storage was also not particularly enticing. I did do it for some time, though, because it's still the most convenient way for the average Joe to store files in the long-term.

Laptops have become the go-to tool for most people, whether you're using them at home, at the office, or on the go. Of course, there are sacrifices that need to be made in order to achieve the desired portability, especially when it comes to the port selection on many laptops. Luckily, USB hubs and docking stations exist, providing an easy way to add ports to any laptop.

Before I moved away from Windows as my primary operating system, I fell in love with a tool called FancyZones. It's included in Microsoft's PowerToys suite, and if it's not clear, Microsoft also makes Windows 11. So, I always kind of wished that FancyZones would someday be implemented directly in Windows, and even wrote about that exact wish. I've also written about how I had to find alternatives to FancyZones when switching to other platforms, such as MacsyZones on macOS and the Tiling Shell extension for GNOME when I used Ubuntu.

Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, the Democratic Federal Trade Commissioner fired by President Donald Trump without cause, can at least temporarily return to work while her legal case plays out. This happened once before when Slaughter briefly returned to her office months after Trump claimed to fire her, when US District Court Judge Loren AliKhan found her dismissal unlawful. Trump broke with decades of Supreme Court precedent known as Humphrey’s Executor, preventing presidents from firing independent commissioners without cause. But her return was short-lived — a few days later the appeals court temporarily paused the order reinstating Slaughter.This latest order, approved 2-1 by a panel of appeals court judges, dissolves that stay and lets Slaughter get back to work until they decide on the merits of the case. While the majority judges don’t actually rule on the case, they write that the government is not likely to win, since “any ruling in its favor from this court would have to defy binding, on-point, and repeatedly preserved Supreme Court precedent.”

It's not uncommon to have a pile-up of old gadgets and tech equipment when you upgrade to a new one. I have an old TV, a monitor, a 7.1 Hi-Fi speaker set, and a bunch of hard disks that have slowly accumulated in a corner of my room. These devices do not serve my daily needs anymore, but are fully functional.
