dbrand’s Killswitch suite is the best way to protect your Switch 2 while gaming — if you can afford it
The Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be a pretty amazing piece of hardware, but it's also a very expensive one. Starting at $450, this isn't a device anyone can just buy on a whim, and certainly not one you want to risk breaking. To that end, dbrand has...

Starting at $450, this isn't a device anyone can just buy on a whim, and certainly not one you want to risk breaking. To that end, dbrand has come out of the woodwork as per usual, bringing its Killswitch lineup to market to offer all-around protection and more.

I tried using a FreeBSD distro as my daily driver in 2025
Ever since I first used the Raspberry Pi OS in 2017, I've become obsessed with trying out different Linux distributions. Ever since I first used the Raspberry Pi OS in 2017, I've become obsessed with trying out different Linux distributions. Now that I’ve experimented with some of the most obscure distros out there, I figured I should focus my attention on FreeBSD distributions. Unfortunately, the FreeBSD landscape is typically dominated by non-desktop operating systems, with router distros like pfSense and OPNsense being the most popular FreeBSD operating systems alongside their NAS-centric siblings: TrueNAS Core and XigmaNAS.

As someone who constantly battled household chaos, I have found a tool that completely transformed my home organization. Instead of relying on cumbersome spreadsheets or expensive software, I opted for a free and open-source inventory tool called HomeBox.

My old GPU isn’t a paperweight, here’s how I still use it
Unless you're a tinkerer or passionate enthusiast, your old PC components probably end up in a drawer or get sold on eBay. When I got a new PC in 2022, my old GPU, i.e., the GTX 1660 Ti, got a well-earned rest after 5 years of daily usage. I enjoyed...
Unless you're a tinkerer or passionate enthusiast, your old PC components probably end up in a drawer or get sold on eBay. When I got a new PC in 2022, my old GPU, i.e., the GTX 1660 Ti, got a well-earned rest after 5 years of daily usage. I enjoyed both 1080p and 1440p gaming on it before moving on to the RTX 3080 on my new PC. The GTX 1660 Ti, however, didn't remain dormant for long, as I found I still had use for it.

4 3D-printed cases that transform a Pi into the ultimate retro console
When you're using a Raspberry Pi, you don't really need a case for it. I mean, sure, it's nice to have one to keep it protected from spills, drops, and dust, but it's not like a PC where you need a case to keep everything together. As such, when people...

I mean, sure, it's nice to have one to keep it protected from spills, drops, and dust, but it's not like a PC where you need a case to keep everything together. As such, when people use their Pis for retro gaming, sometimes they just plug it in as-is and they're done. And I accept that.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT service is currently down for some users after the platform started experiencing performance issues on Tuesday morning. The chatbot responded with a “Hmm…something seems to have gone wrong” error message to my colleague after failing to load, and users across X and Reddit are reporting platform outages.Downdetector is showing that issues started at around 3AM ET, with multiple regions impacted globally. OpenAI’s own status page says that some users started experiencing “elevated error rates and latency” at that time, noting that the issues were affecting ChatGPT, its Sora text-to-video AI tool, and OpenAI APIs. As of 5:23AM ET, OpenAI has added a separate line for “elevated error rates on Sora” and later updated the ChatGPT status to “partial outage.”Some users are able to access ChatGPT, but finding that the service is sluggish and taking much longer than usual to respond. Others like myself are able to use the chatbot without any issues, so the outages and errors don’t seem to be impacting every user.OpenAI says it’s “continuing to investigate this issue.” It’s unclear what is causing the outages, or when regular service will be restored. We will update this page when we have further information.

Being able to personalize Journal entries with doodles on iPad is a nice touch. After two years as an iPhone exclusive, Apple’s Journal app will soon be available on Mac and iPad. Apple announced at WWDC on Monday that its latest macOS 26 and iPadOS 26 updates will support the Journal app, which helps users track their daily activities and experiences with images, videos, and voice memos.“Journal comes to Mac, making it easy to capture and write about everyday moments and special events when inspiration strikes,” Apple said in the macOS 26 press release. “On Mac, it’s easy to type long, thoughtful entries and view them on a map. Users can keep multiple journals for various aspects of life, which are all synced across Apple devices.”On iPad, Apple says that Journal users can use their finger or Apple Pencil to “incorporate drawings and handwriting” alongside their journal entries. I can especially see the appeal on iPad as someone who regularly adds doodles and illustrations to my own journals. Being able to use the app on a larger screen will also likely feel closer to using traditional paper journals, which could sway some people to switch to a digital experience.iPad and Mac users will need to wait a little while to try out Journal — while developer betas are available now, public iPadOS 26 and macOS 26 betas aren’t coming until next month, with a full release expected this fall.

The Xbox Series S prepared developers for the Switch 2, showing how important optimization is

The Nintendo Switch 2 has arrived, bringing new hardware from Nintendo for the first time since the Switch was released in 2017. Like many of Nintendo's consoles in the past two decades, the Switch 2 is coming in underpowered, even with an Nvidia chip powering the console. While some people are opting to buy a more powerful handheld, Nintendo proved with the Switch generation that being underpowered compared to the current Xbox and PlayStation consoles isn't an issue for first-party games.

Starling Bank, one of the UK’s digital challenger banks, has launched a new AI-powered tool that will answer questions about your spending habits. You can now easily find out how much you’ve spent at Amazon in a particular month, how much money you’ve wasted on fast food outlets over the past year, or how much cash you’ve received over a particular period.Starling’s AI tool, or enhanced search as the bank calls it, is an opt-in feature that enables a prompt where you can ask questions about your spending habits. The tool, built with Google Gemini, even suggests prompts that are personalized to your spending patterns.Transactions are listed by retailer and are automatically sorted into more than 50 customizable categories, like bills, transport, and groceries. This makes it easy to see how much you’ve spent at a particular retailer over a period of time, or how much you’ve spent on categories like eating out. I checked to see how much I’ve spent on McDonald’s over the past year, and let’s just say I’m off Big Macs for the foreseeable future. You’ll be presented with a graph and analytics about your spending habits, along with a breakdown of individual payments to retailers in a particular category. It helps address the problem of having the ability to track your payments to retailers in banking apps, but not being able to easily manipulate that data and really understand your finances.“We believe that anyone and everyone can be ‘Good with money,’ so we’ve designed this feature so that people can engage with their finances in a way that feels natural to them,” says Harriet Rees, CIO of Starling Bank. “The more you talk or type, the more you’ll learn about your money management.”Starling is one of a few big digital banks in the UK that have taken a mobile-only approach to try and shake up banking in Britain. Starling now has 4.6 million customer accounts, competing against Monzo’s more than 12 million customers and Revolut’s more than 10 million. All three are still far ahead of traditional banks in digital features, including virtual debit cards, the ability to track spending habits, and real-time transactions.

LG UltraGear 5K2K OLED review: I love it
A few years back, LG released a 45-inch, 21:9 OLED monitor. It was, and continues to be, one of the most mind-boggling displays I've ever seen. Despite being so large and immersive, it came with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 — the same resolution you'll find on any 34-inch...
A few years back, LG released a 45-inch, 21:9 OLED monitor. It was, and continues to be, one of the most mind-boggling displays I've ever seen. Despite being so large and immersive, it came with a resolution of 3440 x 1440 — the same resolution you'll find on any 34-inch ultrawide. It just didn't look sharp enough with its massive size and steep 800R curve against some of the best gaming monitors. LG took the form factor back to the drawing board, added a few million pixels, and now we have the UltraGear 5K2K OLED.
