A developer restored OrcaSlicer’s features that Bambu Lab killed—then the legal threats arrived

Back in January 2025, Bambu Lab cut off OrcaSlicer's direct cloud printing feature. Previously, people could send their slices directly to their Bambu Lab printers; however, Bambu Lab wanted users to route connections through its standalone app, Bambu Connect, which acts as a bridge to its printers. Bambu Lab said that OrcaSlicer could use Bambu Connect, but the developers didn't want to make a one-app solution into a two-app system. Users were stuck with a choice: to either update their firmware and lose OrcaSlicer's printing feature, or stick with the old firmware and never receive updates again.

Claude Code works best when you stop asking it to code

I went into Claude Code expecting the usual AI coding assistant pitch. Faster boilerplate, fewer dead ends, and a lot of promises about how it could speed up the parts of development that feel repetitive. That use case is there, and I’m not pretending otherwise. What surprised me was that...
I went into Claude Code expecting the usual AI coding assistant pitch. Faster boilerplate, fewer dead ends, and a lot of promises about how it could speed up the parts of development that feel repetitive. That use case is there, and I’m not pretending otherwise. What surprised me was that the workflow I liked most had very little to do with asking it to write code for me. The real value showed up when I used it to make sense of everything around the code instead.

I built a 10-inch ePaper dashboard for my 3D printer, and it’s the best display I’ve ever used

I've tried a lot of Home Assistant dashboards, between tablets propped up on stands, old Android phones, cheap ESP32 displays, and more. Yet my favorites have always been the ePaper displays I've got to try, as those other options all have one thing in common: screens. They needed power, they...

Yet my favorites have always been the ePaper displays I've got to try, as those other options all have one thing in common: screens. They needed power, they needed to be on, and they'll always draw your eye whether you want them to or not.

I used Claude Code to help me visualize my PC benchmarks, and it changed my workflow forever

As someone who is equal parts gamer and tinkerer, I spend a lot of time looking at performance metrics. Average FPS is just the tip of the iceberg for me. I'm interested in seeing frametime, latency graphs, and other metrics like GPU Busy compared on a run-to-run basis. Visualizing these...
As someone who is equal parts gamer and tinkerer, I spend a lot of time looking at performance metrics. Average FPS is just the tip of the iceberg for me. I'm interested in seeing frametime, latency graphs, and other metrics like GPU Busy compared on a run-to-run basis. Visualizing these metrics for personal use is easy: applications like CapFrameX do this for you, but I was looking for a way to produce slick graphs for publication here on XDA and elsewhere, and so, like most people who have rudimentary knowledge of coding, I turned to Claude Code to assist with making an application that could do just that. It succeeded in accomplishing that task far beyond my expectations, and there's still so much I can improve on.

I uninstalled these 4 Obsidian plugins and my vault instantly became easier to manage

When I first got into Obsidian, I also got into the plugins at the same time. That’s just what you do - every setup video, Reddit thread, or “here’s my vault” post had a plugin list at the end. So I built mine too. But the vault started feeling more like a project I was managing on top of my actual projects. Which is kind of the opposite of what I wanted when I picked Obsidian over something like Notion to begin with.

Waydroid runs Android apps on Linux better than Windows ever ran them on WSA

The Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) is history now. Microsoft caved in and killed the project, which angered a lot of users because it was one of the main highlights of the Windows 11 launch. Microsoft failed to anticipate the demand for running Android apps with Google Play Store support, and the option to only download apps via the Amazon Appstore didn’t appeal to a lot of users. I thought WSA would kill third-party Android emulators on Windows, but WSA didn’t catch up with them.
