Both the 14 and 16-inch variants have stellar 2K displays with HDR support, making them some of the best laptop displays in the industry. Yes, they're not OLED like laptops from some other brands, but the overall package is fantastic. Now, all MacBook Pro computers starting with the M1 Pro have a peak brightness of 1,000 nits. However, this level of brightness can only be achieved when consuming HDR content -- that, too, only in a particular section of the display.

I've been in the 3D printing hobby for a long time. Back then, you had a choice between industrial machines that cost more than your car or hacked-together machines built by hobbyists from assorted parts. MakerBot was making open-source printers housed in wood, which were more approachable as kits, and then the singularity hit. Josef Prusa iterated on several different designs, and the Prusa i3 was born. Built to open-source ideals, it was quickly copied by plenty of other companies, and the era of cheap 3D printing kits began.

It's been a busy week for Alien: Earth's marketing team, having released three new teasers over the last few days. The longest of them - titled "Gestation Complete" - spends two whole minutes on the gestation and birth of an alien creature. Another, "Crate," gives hints that Earth could be facing more than just a xenomorph, the franchise's shiny, acid-spitting ancient aliens. Both teasers were released today, following a goofy nature documentary-themed Earth Day teaser earlier this week. "Gestation Complete" is worth sitting through if you were a fan of the look of the 1979 Alien movie that kicked off the franchise. After the creepy alien birth, you're treated to shots of the inside of the Weyland-Yutani ship that's carrying the alien, complete with the retro-future CRT-style displays and blinking buttons from the ship's Mother's chamber - the room housing the ship's AI computer system interface. On one of the displays, an ominous message reads: "NEW SPECIES DETECTED." The other, shorter trailer hints at what else the series might have in store, with a narrator speaking over footage of shadowy aliens behind foggy yellow containment module windows:This ship collected fiv …Read the full story at The Verge.

For as long as I can remember, Linux has been considered the golden goose for tech enthusiasts. Back in my university days, I started to toy around with Ubuntu, but I never dedicated as much time to it as I could have. I decided to give it another go recently, lured by the promises of an open-source operating system that required minimal system resources. And while I tried to love Linux, I just couldn't bring myself to use it as my daily driver for several reasons.

If you've been keeping up-to-date on your Raspberry Pi news, you may remember the handheld console that fits within an Altoid tin released back in March. It was an excellent project and showed off the power of the Pi when squeezing hardware into teeny-tiny cases. While you could use a real Altoids tin to put everything in, you also had the option to 3D print the enclosure, making it an excellent way to put your Pi Picos to good use.

Google Photos is a great tool for cataloging, storing, and viewing all your photos and videos. Using Google Drive, you have a good portion of the company's cloud infrastructure reserved for just your data, but it's not perfect. You will need to pay for an optional subscription should you wish to store more than the free tier allows. The best experience also requires Android since it's all baked in, much like Apple and iCloud, though Google is more open with its ecosystem. Then there's the whole privacy issue.

3 reasons why my next GPU will be from AMD, not Nvidia or Intel

Shopping for a mid-range graphics card in 2025 is very tricky. Although Nvidia is the market leader, its graphics cards don't impress me in terms of price-to-performance. Sure, if money is not an issue, the RTX 5090 is an easy recommendation if you can find one in stock. But things...

Sure, if money is not an issue, the RTX 5090 is an easy recommendation if you can find one in stock. But things get complicated in the mid-range segment, where you'll see Nvidia trying to cut corners with its GPUs. And that's quite literally why I won't consider Nvidia the next time I'm in the market for a value-for-money GPU.

Asus RTX 50 cards feature a gyroscope and accelerometer to prevent sag and nobody knew until now

It's always weird when an update magically "adds" a new sensor or feature to a piece of hardware. Of course, it's never actually magic; it's just the manufacturer finally adding the driver code to identify a specific feature that has already been there. But boy, does it feel like it.
