You’d expect PC components to become more advanced in every respect as time goes on. Whether it’s performance, value, features, efficiency, or flexibility, PC hardware is supposed to move forward. However, over the last 10 years, the industry has conclusively moved backward in multiple departments, calling it progress instead of what it really is — a downgrade. GPU manufacturers are doing everything in their power to extract more money from you for the least possible upgrade they can offer. Motherboard ports are being cut down to provide consumers with less functionality instead of more. Modular memory has been replaced by soldered variants in laptops and compact PCs, and the budget segment is being gradually erased with each passing year. It seems like the transition of the PC hardware industry into a shell of its former self is all but complete.
