I played a video via the rclone mount (on default settings), and when I tried to seek forward by 20-25 seconds, playback stopped, buffered, and then resumed. But when I played the same file in Google Drive’s app, it was fine.

I'm bouncing down the road in San Carlos, California, zipping past behemoth tech companies like EA and Oracle, in America's smallest electric truck. The Telo MT1 (which stands for "mini truck") unquestionably turns heads because it looks so remarkably different from everything else on the market right now. It has a nearly cab-over design, meaning that front-seat passengers sit almost directly over the front axle. It looks a lot like a Japanese kei truck, with a super-short nose and four doors. People stop to stare as we sit at stoplights or roll silently past. The interior is surprisingly spacious, and while the seats are firm, they're n …Read the full story at The Verge.

If your older (or brand new) smart TV starts to feel slow, you might think it is time to buy a new one. However, you can do a few simple things in the settings menu to perk it up. It had been a few years since I'd really dug into my main TV's settings menu, and I got it feeling new again. Plus, I didn't have to exhaustively search for the right code to access the factory service menu to make tweaks.

Mini PCs are versatile, compact computers you can buy on a budget. They can replace traditional desktops and also become a valuable part of a home lab or smart home. The only downside is that you have to buy everything else, like a monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

We're getting to an interesting point in AI development where they can code up an app pretty quickly. Whether or not the app is any good is another story, but we're definitely turning around some kind of corner with AI development. Well, one person has bravely decided to take on Adobe at their own game with an entire suite of software coded up with the help of AI, and it's an interesting insight into what the future may hold.

Renata Reinsve (top center) and Sebastian Stan (top right) play religious Romanians living in Norway. | FLC Press Cristian Mungiu's sixth feature, Fjord, concerns a family on trial. They seem like good people, God-fearing. They've just moved from Romania to a small hamlet nestled in the fjords of rural Norway. There is Mamma (Renate Reinsve), Tata (a bald and bespectacled Sebastian Stan), and their passel of children. They are an openly religious and proselytizing family. The parents, unfashionably, believe in punitive consequences to actions. They would never be accused of gentle parenting. All ought to be well, only Norway in 2026 is extravagantly suspicious of the devout - their famous tolerance reserved for the secular. Fjord starts quietly and b …Read the full story at The Verge.

Even though I'm relatively wary of AI answers, I still occasionally turn to AI tools to quickly understand certain topics. This is especially true when I use Brave Search to get an answer to a question.

For every AI feature of questionable utility that Microsoft advertises relentlessly, there's a useful one hiding in the OS in plain sight. Many of these tools aid productivity or everyday troubleshooting, and some let you forgo paying for utilities that do the same job outright.

When I first got into self-hosting my own Large Language Models, I’d use distilled variants of Deepseek-R1 and switch to a different model if it couldn’t handle my productivity tasks. Unfortunately, the only alternatives I could find were in the sub-7B range, as my old GPUs couldn’t accommodate bulkier models without massively slowing down the inference operations.

Two of the biggest model launches this year happened just days apart, and since then the entire internet has run test after test on them. Naturally, my feed was inundated by all the utilities and designs that people were vibe-coding with Fable 5.1 and GPT-6 Astra, especially when it came to comparing them. I must say, it's been difficult picking my favorites because taste is mainly subjective. So I wanted to put them to the test myself and see how they actually follow instructions and improvise on the spot.

I miss my sweet tits. It started off promising enough. Dozens of tiny, colorful birds were drawn to my garden just a few weeks after I mounted a $350 $269 Kiwibit Bird Feeder 2 Pro. "Looks like Great Tit!" read the first AI-driven alert sent to my phone. "Looks like Eurasian Blue Tit!" read another. I chuckled, still waiting for adulthood to kick in.This went on for days. Hundreds of miniature tits came to snack on expensive sunflower seeds already husked. They'd skulk about in nearby trees before flittering in to grab a single seed to be safely enjoyed in the canopy above.I took great delight in my new house guests. I admired them in crisp 4K HDR video recor …Read the full story at The Verge.

I think one of the coolest things people can do with old tech is repurpose it. Recently, we've seen a wave of people tinker with their Kindles to give them new leases on life (such as that one time someone turned their Paperwhite into an e-ink digital assistant). Now, someone else has demonstrated that the Microsoft Zune HD that has been sitting in your bits box for years can now become your very own portable Super Mario 64 console.
