Microsoft has quite a few projects going right now. The biggest one is Windows K2, which sounds like a brand-new version of the operating system, but it's actually a major revamp of Windows 11 to tweak users' biggest pain points. There's also Project Helix, which will define the next generation of Xbox consoles

An important change will soon be made to global timekeeping that aims to prevent potential infrastructure failures akin to the Y2K bug scare. On Thursday, the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) voted to scrap the leap second, an ad hoc time adjustment that's occasionally added so tracked time standards mirror the Earth's real (and inconsistent) rotation.BIPM members previously agreed in 2022 to cease using leap seconds on or before 2035, but this is now being expedited to take effect on May 20th next year, aligning with World Metrology Day. There's an unprecedented reason for its retirement being brought forward: changes t …Read the full story at The Verge.

Before I started using n8n, most of my automations were Python or Bash scripts that ran through cron jobs. They got things done, although adding something new or figuring out why a script stopped working took more effort than I wanted. I only have a working knowledge of Python, and even when an AI tool helps me write the code, I still have to understand enough of it to maintain the automation. With n8n, I can follow the workflow on a canvas, check what each step does, and change the part I need.

Elon Musk promised a flying car. And the Tesla Roadster did exactly that. Tesla demonstrated its next-generation Roadster at an event in Waco, Texas, where the electric supercar drove upside down, briefly flew, and accelerated to 60mph in under a second. It was an impressive demonstration of a car that likely will come with some heavy caveats and restrictions if it ever goes into production. The event was less than 30 minutes and felt more like a stunt show than a product reveal. Indeed, there was no mention of price, release date, or other such mundane details. Musk promised the hypercar would go into production in 2028, but after near …Read the full story at The Verge.

Ever thought about taking your iPad to the next level? The Apple Magic Keyboard Folio will do just that. It's a cover that protects your iPad and, more importantly, adds a keyboard and trackpad. Now, while this might seem like a pretty simple accessory, Apple charges an excessive amount, with a retail price of $249. We wouldn't dare spend that much, but luckily it's now 40% off on Amazon, at $150. This is the best price we've seen for this in the past two years. Get it now before it's gone.

This MacBook Pro lookalike is designed for developers. After setting up Microsoft's Surface Laptop Ultra, I spent five minutes just staring at it. I wasn't surprised by its MacBook Pro-like design or blown away by its bright display. I was trying to work out what I'd actually do with a $5,900 laptop. This isn't just any regular Windows laptop. Microsoft has teamed up with Nvidia to build a high-end laptop to showcase Nvidia's new Arm-based RTX Spark chips. It's a big moment for Windows on Arm, as these chips can run demanding AI models locally, alongside the latest AAA games and creative apps. The promise is compelling, but the reality of local AI is much messier.Getting the most out of the S …Read the full story at The Verge.

The iPhone Duo is Apple’s first foldable phone. | Photo by Antonio Di Benedetto / The Verge Few phones have been more anticipated than a foldable iPhone, but it's finally here. If you've been watching the PC hardware market, you'll know that GPU prices are skyrocketing again. As such, a cheap listing for a big-name Nvidia or AMD card itself is enough to warrant a second look when you're a potential buyer. According to the latest reports from Tom's Hardware, the only card that's even selling close to its MSRP is AMD's RX 9070 GRE, which should tell you enough about how desperate the marketplaces have become.

I’ve hacked my PS Vita eight ways to Sunday. I’ve filled it with emulators, and even overclocked it. I’ve sunk more hours than I’d like to admit into homebrew projects tweaking its performance. Every time I turned it on, I was greeted by the same wavy blue bubbles Sony shipped in 2012. I changed all that when I found VitaOS, an open-source project that doesn’t just reskin the home screen; it replaces the handheld’s interface entirely with something I still use.

The retro game decompilation/recompilation port world keeps getting wilder. This latest port is maybe the weirdest I've seen so far: someone has actually gotten Halo: Combat Evolved running on the Nintendo 64.

Smart glasses have always been one category of tech I've found sort of dystopian. The idea of having cameras, microphones, AI assistants, and even displays (like XREAL's Project Aura) built into something you wear on your face all day sounds like something straight out of a sci-fi movie!

Two days ago, we reported on how Total War: Shogun 2's Complete Edition was getting review-bombed after people discovered brand new bugs and alleged AI-upscaled assets. The backlash was so strong that the title earned an "Overwhelmingly Negative" review score, with only 19% of the reviews being positive. Well, it seems Sega recognises that its fanbase has a point, as it has removed Total War: Shogun 2 - Complete Edition from Steam until it fixes the problems.
