Proprietary software developers typically hide their hands to avoid competition from poaching their ideas before they have a chance to release, but FOSS apps don't share that problem. As such, you'll more often than not have the opportunity to see what everyone is working on and get some sneak peeks into potential new features.

For most home lab builders, GPUs are somewhat of an afterthought. CPUs virtualize cleanly, storage can be sliced and replicated with relative ease, and networking is only as complicated as you need it to be. GPUs, on the other hand, either work flawlessly, or passthrough has so many issues you might as well not even bother.

Out of all the apps on the internet that offer free trials, I don't think I've seen as many memes for a specific one as I have for WinRAR. It's a shame, because WinRAR is one of the only apps I know that acts on the honor system. You can still use WinRAR once your trial is over, but the 'right thing to do' is to pay for a license, even if nobody actually does. Either that, or move to 7-Zip.

Microsoft's PowerToys team is contemplating building a top menu bar for Windows 11, much like Linux, macOS, or older versions of Windows.
