You probably have your phone with you more often than your laptop. It fits in your pocket, travels everywhere, and already handles a surprising number of daily tasks. You can reply to messages, join meetings, manage emails, take photos, record videos, and browse the web without ever reaching for a computer. Work, however, remains a different story. Most smartphones are designed around consumption and communication rather than productivity.

I finally found a self-hosted notes app that doesn’t feel like work

When it comes to self-hosting, note-taking apps are my favorite type of software to explore. I appreciate the different approaches developers take to their solutions, especially when it comes to services that favor simplicity.

I started using Gemini Actions in Android Auto, and it’s been a game-changer

In-car voice assistants are supposed to make driving safer and easier, but traditional setups often feel more distracting than helpful. That completely changes with Gemini Actions in Android Auto.

I replaced Claude’s memory with a local notes folder, and it worked better than expected

There have been times when I’m deep into a complex project with Claude, only to realize it has forgotten a crucial piece of content I established eight prompts ago.

When it comes to accessing your files across your network, many people may share a drive or set up a server or NAS running a popular Linux distro. However, one way to share files across your network that you might have forgotten about is to use a spare USB port on a Wi-Fi router. For this demonstration and proof of concept, I am using a thumb drive, but it’s possible to plug in any-sized USB drive, provided there is enough power to run it. I have even used large Western Digital My Book drives with a dedicated power source.

So long, Series 8. | Photo by Amelia Holowaty Krales / The Verge I hope you have a modern Apple Watch or iPad, because otherwise watchOS 27 and iPadOS 27 won't run on your device. That list may be incomplete; we've seen reports of people successfully installing the watchOS 27 developer bet …Read the full story at The Verge.

Jellyfin finally feels good on my TV, but I had to stop using the default client

For the better part of a decade now, Plex has been my media server of choice. I bought the Lifetime Pass a lifetime ago (pun intended), built my library around it, and never really felt the need to look elsewhere. So when I recently started setting up Jellyfin for a few friends (because let's face it, Plex pricing is preposterous now), it wasn't because I was planning to jump ship. However, curiosity got the better of me, and it was pretty impressive just how far the free and open-source alternative had come.
