In the early 2000s, the alarm bells had already been sounded for approximately a decade that IPv4 addresses were running out. Its 4.3 billion possible addresses, considered unimaginably large, suddenly looked very finite, and the standardization of IPv6 was a process undergone from the mid 1990s up until its publication in 1998. Yet just a few years later, in the mid 2000s, rumors circulated that China was working on IPv9. The problem, though, was that no international body recognized it, and it seemed drastically different from the rest of the wider internet.

The way we search for information has changed, and it's only set to expedite as we move into the world of artificial intelligence. We've seen this already with the more popular search engines favoring AI-powered results over traditional lists, which have the goal to provide accurate information at a glance, instead of requiring us to visit websites to find the desired information. It sounds good on paper, but this takes power out of our hands and places a little too much on the plate of software. Trusting algorithms to work out which websites provide the highest quality is one thing.

PC gaming has long been at the forefront of pushing the boundaries when it comes to performance, choice, and innovations. We've seen all the vintage packaging that graphics cards and other PC parts used to be shipped within, but the actual hardware was also fairly experimental for its time. Building a new system or upgrading a specific part, such as the aforementioned GPU, never used to cost an arm and a leg, but times have most certainly changed since the days of ATI and Nvidia. We're now experiencing platform lock-in, rising costs, and creep control. Nvidia has the upper hand when it comes to software and flagship hardware, but AMD has made ground and continues to try and undercut the competition.

One of the biggest wins for Microsoft Teams is that it's easy to use, but you still need to know some of the important tricks for flawless communication. However, since Microsoft keeps updating Teams with new features and improvements, you also need to keep learning about those to get the best experience. And the best part is that Microsoft is quite open about telling the world what Teams features it's currently working on and when to expect them.

If you're upgrading your PC, chances are you now have some older, spare components lying around. One of Discord’s third-party customer service providers was compromised by an “unauthorized party,” the company says. The unauthorized party gained access to “information from a limited number of users who had contacted Discord through our Customer Support and/or Trust & Safety teams” and aimed to “extort a financial ransom from Discord.” The unauthorized party “did not gain access to Discord directly.”Data potentially accessed by the hack includes things like names, usernames, emails, and the last four digits of credit card numbers. The unauthorized party also accessed a “small number” of images of government IDs from “users who had appealed an age determination.” Full credit card numbers and passwords were not impacted by the breach, Discord says. The company is notifying impacted users now over email. If your ID might have been accessed, Discord will specify that. Discord also says it revoked the support provider’s access to Discord’s ticketing system, has notified data protection authorities, is working with law enforcement, and has reviewed “our threat detection systems and security controls for third-party support providers.”

The world of console exclusivity is beginning to fray a little; at least, if your name isn't Nintendo. While we won't see Mario on any other platform any time soon, some PlayStation devs have pushed for cross-platform releases to bolster their profits, while Microsoft has pretty much ditched the idea of Xbox exclusives and now aims to put its titles on as many devices as possible.

Back in January of this year, Lego released a new Game Boy. Well, it technically released one, because the Game Boy in question wasn't functional. It was just a kit you could use to construct a Game Boy that looked the part, but when it came to playing Pokémon Blue on it, there were no electronics within it. It was just a standard Lego kit.
