Over the years, I've used a lot of different PDF readers, and my opinion of them is pretty bleak. Most of them suck. I have a large collection of ebooks in PDF form, but I despise reading them because of the hassle of navigating the pages and trying to read on non-user-friendly setups. I also have a sizable collection of comics and manga, but I have to have a specialized reader for those, since some PDF readers just don't work for .cbz files.

The Federal Communications Commission has banned new drones made in foreign countries from being imported into the US unless the Department of Defense or the Department of Homeland Security recommends them. Monday's action added drones to the FCC's Covered List, qualifying foreign-made drones and drone parts, like those from DJI, as communications equipment representing "unacceptable risks to the national security of the United States and to the safety and security of U.S. persons." DJI is "disappointed" by today's action, Adam Welsh, DJI's head of global policy, says in a statement. "While DJI was not singled out, no information has been …Read the full story at The Verge.

ChatGPT is joining the flood of apps offering yearly recaps for users. It's rolling out a "Year in Review" feature that will show you a bunch of stats - like how many messages you sent to the chatbot in 2025 - as well as give you an AI-generated pixel art-style image that encompasses some of the topics you talked about this year. The image I received showed an aquarium beside a game cartridge, an Instant Pot, and a computer screen, reflecting some of the questions I had related to retro game consoles, cooking, and my fish tank setup. There are other personalized summaries, too, like a rundown of the themes most prevalent in your chats, a …Read the full story at The Verge.

I come from an era where you could find microSD cards almost everywhere. Inside Handycams, Sony Ericsson phones, BlackBerry handsets, MP3 players, and early smartphones long before internal storage became generous or affordable. For the longest time, they were the easiest way to carry your digital life in your pocket. In late 2025, they're still very much alive for things such as powering game libraries on the Nintendo Switch, expanding storage on the Steam Deck, for Raspberry Pi projects, and even some security cameras, drones, and dashcams.

Yesterday, Bari Weiss, the new editor-in-chief of CBS News, censored a segment of its newsmagazine 60 Minutes about men who had been deported to an El Salvador prison. Today, it's popping up online.60 Minutes had already begun promoting the now-censored segment online. Because it was pulled so late, it seems that CBS missed at least one platform for distribution: Canada's Global TV. Some people used a VPN to watch it; at least one person recorded it, distributing it through an iCloud account. The segment, which has been reviewed by The Verge, is a little shy of 14 minutes long. It features video of men, chained and bent double, being "pa …Read the full story at The Verge.

There are plenty of great gaming laptops out there, but if you're looking for something with plenty of power that's still relatively sleek, the Razer Blade 14 is going to be it. We didn't get a chance to review this year's model, but last year's version really blew us away.

With GPUs getting larger, it only makes sense that PC cases also grow alongside this. But rather than just having large gaps and empty space, PC cases now have room for way more fans than are necessary. In some cases, like the O11 Dynamic and the NZXT H9, theylook empty without 9 or even 10 fans.

You know, there's something about seeing snow in video games that makes the entire experience hit differently in December. Maybe it's the lights reflecting off frozen streets, the snowflakes slowly making their way to you, or maybe it's the quiet melancholy that only a winter setting can pull off. Whatever it is, some games just feel like Christmas, despite the gunfights and conspiracies, much like Die Hard being hailed as a Christmas movie whether people like it or not.

Every time I had to do research, I found myself with dozens of open tabs. I would open tabs with the information I need now and many others with information I might need in the near future. All of that made the browser slower and wasted time searching for what I needed. When I decided to try the Comet browser, it made research easier: the assistant was right next to what I was reading, not in a separate app I had to open.

The ability to mix and match different hardware components is a neat aspect of home labs, but the real fun begins once you start tinkering with all the operating systems, container runtimes, and virtualization platforms at your disposal. These days, Proxmox stands at the apex of the home lab ecosystem, with XCP-ng, Harvester, and ESXi following closely behind it.

I'll let you in on a little secret. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to my home network, and prefer that things manage themselves wherever possible. That's partly why I have so many Apple devices: Bonjour for local service and device discovery is fantastic. There's nothing like connecting to my home network to see every device I use populate in Finder automatically, and I don't have to map network drives or locations like my Windows machines often need.

Bazzite, a Linux distro that has a lot in common with Valve's SteamOS, is designed specifically with gaming in mind, offering a console-like experience that ditches the majority of Windows 11's most annoying features.
