My primary rig hasn't run a GTX 1070 in years, but I still keep one around, and I recently sat it down for a real benchmarking pass to see just how capable it still was. A friend of mine is looking for an uber-cheap entry into PC gaming, and 3 of the games he wants to try are Escape from Tarkov, Counter-Strike 2, and Battlefield 6. For a GPU that launched almost exactly 10 years ago, I was pleasantly surprised at the level of performance it put out. For 1080p, it's still capable of playable framerates, though, its age is starting to show a bit in the newer titles.

Every time I dig through Windows 11's network settings, I feel like I have discovered a new one. Last week, I was chasing down a random LAN disconnect issue and had reset all network settings to reconfigure everything. Netflix is thinking about adding always-on channels that would stream specific shows and movies, according to The Wall Street Journal. The move sounds like a Netflix version of always-on services like Pluto TV and Tubi, except the big hook for those is that they're free - because of the ads you have to watch. Netflix has seen success with its ad-supported tier, which is increasingly popular, but it costs $8.99 per month after a recent price hike. OpenAI is already shutting down ChatGPT Atlas, its browser that could do tasks for you on your behalf, less than a year after launching it. Atlas was announced in October, but as part of its wave of news about ChatGPT Work today, the company confirmed that it will be "sunsetting" Atlas and is targeting an August 9th date for deprecation.The shutdown follows OpenAI's push to reduce "side quests" and catch up with Anthropic on productivity features. Don't get me wrong; getting Doom to run on stuff is impressive. Seeing the classic FPS running on all sorts of displays is always a treat. But I think we can begin moving away from Doom and start seeing what we can stuff Minecraft on instead. I mean, we've already seen Minecraft running on a smart bulb's hardware before, so I think there's real potential there.
