I replaced the expensive Claude Pro subscription with these local models, and my productivity didn’t drop a bit

The era of the $20-a-month AI tax is officially over for my workflow. For the last few months, Claude Pro was my co-pilot (not the one from Microsoft) for debugging Python scripts, planning a vacation, and giving me ideas about improving my home lab.

I have already dedicated one of my Raspberry Pi Zero 2W to host Vaultwarden and serve as an isolated, energy-efficient password manager. The Pi Zero 2W is a perfect fit because it doesn't need a lot of power to work, supports wireless networking, and doesn't run out of memory while running the password manager. I have a few more Pi Zero 2W units, and I decided to dedicate another tiny yet frequently used tool to one of them.

Beforehand, when Linux had to free up room on your GPU's VRAM and move stuff to the RAM, it had zero context over which blocks of data were assigned to which apps. As such, it had a tendency to boot the game you're playing off the VRAM to help keep that one random Google Chrome window you have open on the GPU's RAM, which isn't ideal.
