Anyone who finds themselves wishing they could spend less time on meal prep might have a solution in the form of the recently-launched Nosh One from Nosh Robotics, an AI kitchen appliance that can autonomously cook for you. All users need to do is load their ingredients into the robot's tray then select a recipe. The Nosh One adds the ingredients into its pot at the appropriate time, stirs everything, uses AI to monitor the ingredients with a built-in camera, and completes the meal without needing any intervention along the way. Nosh's app notifies users when the meal is ready. They can also use the app to view and edit recipes and schedul …Read the full story at The Verge.

This free Proton Pass feature saves my email from ending up on more spam lists

While I initially switched to Proton Pass as a more secure way to store my passwords than my browser's built-in tool, the password manager turned out to have other benefits.

Linux distros are quietly abandoning their own desktops for KDE Plasma, and I get why

There has been a gradual but noticeable shift in the Linux scene where distro developers are adopting KDE Plasma as the default desktop environment. Granted, there are a few examples of distros going the opposite way, but it feels like we don't go a few months without another operating system...

How a drill defeated the Xbox 360’s console security

Console hackers are some of the most headstrong people out there. If they want unfiltered access to a console's hardware and software, they'll always find a way. Usually, this is done through some soft-modding techniques, like taking advantage of a buffer overflow somewhere in a game's code, or exploiting a port on the console. Occasionally, hard-modding techniques are used, like hardwiring a modchip onto the board. If that already sounds like an invasive method to you, you're in for a real treat.

Syncthing keeps every device I own in sync without a single file ever touching a cloud server

I go to great lengths to ensure my data is protected and secure. After all, much of what I'm backing up is sentimental: family photos, recipes, etc. It's the kind of information I don't want to lose, but that I don't reasonably have space to store in a physical format....
I go to great lengths to ensure my data is protected and secure. After all, much of what I'm backing up is sentimental: family photos, recipes, etc. It's the kind of information I don't want to lose, but that I don't reasonably have space to store in a physical format. While there are tons of cloud backup options, they all suffer from the same flaw — they run on third-party servers. Regardless of promises of security and high-level encryption, there's no guarantee. Syncthing circumvents that concern by keeping my data off the cloud, backed up to multiple devices in my home.

I replaced VS Code with this open-source editor and it’s faster, lighter, and runs all my extensions

The source code is available under the MIT license, but the product you actually download from Microsoft is distributed under a different license. It also includes telemetry and tracking. If you want an editor that just works, and you’re okay with Microsoft collecting that data, I’m not even going to try to sell you an alternative. VS Code fits your use case perfectly.

I ignored this Google Labs experiment at first, but now I use it daily

For the longest time, I never paid much attention to audio summary features in the AI tools I use, such as NotebookLM’s Audio Overviews. I usually skim text summaries or the original sources faster than the speed at which an audio clip plays. So the idea of sitting through an...

I usually skim text summaries or the original sources faster than the speed at which an audio clip plays. So the idea of sitting through an audio summary just never really appealed to me.
