Liquid metal works great as thermal paste, but the hidden costs aren’t worth it

Thermal interface materials seldom get a mention in the PC building discourse, but it's an essential catalyst for effective CPU and GPU cooling. Selecting the right thermal compound can often represent a thin line between frustrating thermal throttling that comes up as micro-stutters and seamless performance.

Windows 11 is finally getting a movable taskbar, and it only took Microsoft five years

In a conversation captured in NASA's Artemis livestream and shared on Bluesky, Wiseman reported to Mission Control: "I also see that I have two Microsoft Outlooks and neither one of those are working." 3 signs you’re not actually using your new GPU to its full potential

If there's one thing PC gamers really look forward to besides new releases, it's upgrading their hardware. And nothing feels quite as exciting as installing a brand-new GPU. It's the kind of upgrade that's supposed to be instantly noticeable, not something you have to second-guess like a CPU or RAM upgrade usually is.

The Legion Go 2’s mouse mode, unique among Windows handhelds. | Photo: Antonio G. Di Benedetto / The Verge Remember when we thought the Legion Go 2 was expensive at $1,099 and up? Those were the days - Best Buy is now listing Lenovo's handheld for $1,499 with a Ryzen Z2 or $1,999 with a Z2 Extreme. The latter originally cost $1,349, so that's a $650 jump in just six months. And yes, that means Lenovo's flagship may now cost twice as much as a $999 Microsoft/Asus Xbox Ally X with the same AMD chip, as much as a far more powerful GPD Win 5 with AMD Strix Halo cost last year. But the way things are going, it's probably only a matter of time till Microsoft hikes its handheld Xbox price too. (For now, Asus rep Anthony Spence tells me there's "no pric …Read the full story at The Verge.

Utah is allowing an AI system to prescribe psychiatric drugs without a doctor. It's only the second time the state - and the country - has delegated this kind of clinical authority to AI. State officials say it could bring costs down and ease care shortages, but physicians warn the system is opaque, risky, and unlikely to expand mental health care to those who need it.The one-year pilot, announced last week, will allow Legion Health's AI chatbot to renew certain prescriptions for psychiatric medications, in some cases. The San Francisco startup promises Utah-based patients "fast, simple refills" through a $19-a-month subscription. The prog …Read the full story at The Verge.

I over-engineered my home lab on purpose, and it’s the best decision I’ve made

I stopped manually organizing 90+ NotebookLM notebooks once I found these two underrated tools

I’ve been using NotebookLM for long enough now to know its pain points, and the lack of organizational features is something I’ve just kind of accepted. I made do, tried to find workarounds, and just tolerated the chaos. Then I started getting closer to my notebook cap (I’m using the free tier), and it dawned on me that I was going to have to do some decluttering. And since NotebookLM doesn’t have many organizational functions, it would need to be done manually - painstakingly sifting through all the notebooks and every notebook’s contents to decide what’s worth keeping or tossing.

I almost ditched Claude over its brutal rate limits, but then it nailed something no other AI could

After hearing good things about Anthropic's Claude AI, I wanted to give the chatbot a try for myself. I'm usually skeptical of LLM tools because of their habit of hallucinating, so I wanted to see if Claude really offered a different experience.
