The creator of Task Manager explains why people hate Windows 11, and how Microsoft can fix it

I like a good OS debate as much as anybody else, but when it comes to making the calls on the current state of Windows, Dave Plummer should be the voice you listen to. If you don't recognise that name, you'll likely know him more for his work instead of...
I like a good OS debate as much as anybody else, but when it comes to making the calls on the current state of Windows, Dave Plummer should be the voice you listen to. If you don't recognise that name, you'll likely know him more for his work instead of his title, as he was the one that built the Task Manager that has saved so many of our hides during a bad Windows session.

The LG G5 takes OLED performance to another level

Specular highlights on the G5 are bright and radiant. LG OLEDs are consistently some of the best TVs you can get, and I've lost count how many times I've recommended them to family and friends. Add the LG G5 to that list. It's LG's high-end gallery-style TV, designed to look...
Specular highlights on the G5 are bright and radiant. LG OLEDs are consistently some of the best TVs you can get, and I've lost count how many times I've recommended them to family and friends. Add the LG G5 to that list. It's LG's high-end gallery-style TV, designed to look refined and sleek mounted on the wall - which it achieves thanks to its slim profile and flush mounting. Its black levels are deep and inky, and color and grayscale accuracy are spot on. It delivers a gorgeous, engaging image that makes a normal movie night something special. Most impressive about the G5 is its significant bump in brightness over last year's G4. Over the last few years, quantum-dot OLEDs from Samsung and S …Read the full story at The Verge.

This cool Raspberry Pi project uses a LiDAR to measure rooms

You know, I think we need a lot more Raspberry Pi LiDAR projects. Granted, I've never worked with a LiDAR scanner before, so I have no idea how hard it is to wire one up to a Raspberry Pi. All I know is, whenever someone does manage it, the project...
You know, I think we need a lot more Raspberry Pi LiDAR projects. Granted, I've never worked with a LiDAR scanner before, so I have no idea how hard it is to wire one up to a Raspberry Pi. All I know is, whenever someone does manage it, the project they make is usually really cool, and I want to see more of them. The last time I saw one was back in April, when someone made a LiDAR scanner project which I really liked the look of.

I tried Arduino’s first Raspberry Pi competitor and it’s wonderfully weird

Yet the company's sudden and surprising acquisition by Qualcomm was announced alongside the launch of the Arduino Uno Q, a single-board computer powered by a Qualcomm SoC and running Linux out of the box. It's the first "true" Raspberry Pi competitor from Arduino, and it's... weird.

Apple made a $230 crossbody… sock

Yeah, that’s a fancy iPhone sock. If you were confused about Apple releasing a crossbody iPhone strap, then you’re going to find its new iPhone Pocket even more perplexing. The Pocket is actually a knitted bag, though it might be more apt to describe it as a sock designed to snugly encase your iPhone, instead of just sticking it in your purse or pocket. This limited edition collaboration with Japanese designer Issey Miyake can be yours for an eyewatering $229.95. That’s for the crossbody version available in blue, brown, or black. A shorter version is available in additional color options (including vivid orange, yellow, purple, pink, and turquoise) for $149.95, which can be hooked over your arm or tied to a bag.Apple says the 3D-knitted design was inspired by “a piece of cloth” (yes, really), and was born from the idea “of creating an additional pocket” that accommodates “any iPhone” and small everyday items. That means it can carry more than Apple’s $59 crossbody iPhone strap. “The design of iPhone Pocket speaks to the bond between iPhone and its user, while keeping in mind that an Apple product is designed to be universal in aesthetic and versatile in use,” according to Miyake Design Studio’s design director, Yoshiyuki Miyamae. “iPhone Pocket explores the concept of ‘the joy of wearing iPhone in your own way.’”At least Steve Jobs had the good sense to mock the $29 iPod Socks as “a revolutionary new product” when unveiled back in 2004.The iPhone Pocket will be available to purchase online starting November 14th, and from a handful of Apple Store locations in the US, France, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the UK.Update, November 11th: Added link to infamous iPod Socks launch.

One of the best ways to dodge Windows 11’s system requirements has just released version 2.0

Hopefully, if you've intended to move from Windows 10 to 11, you've either signed up for the Windows 10 ESU plan or made the jump by now. If you're in the former camp, it's still a good idea to keep your eyes on what's happening over in Windows 11's camp,...
Hopefully, if you've intended to move from Windows 10 to 11, you've either signed up for the Windows 10 ESU plan or made the jump by now. If you're in the former camp, it's still a good idea to keep your eyes on what's happening over in Windows 11's camp, as Microsoft has hinted that the ESU will only last for three years total. The company also stated that it plans to raise the cost of continuing each year for business customers, and there's a good chance they'll do it for consumers, too.

Sandisk’s new 1TB USB-C drive is so small you never need to take it out

Sandisk has released what it says is the world’s smallest 1TB USB-C flash drive, one tiny enough to plug into a laptop and never take out.The Extreme Fit is just a little bigger than the wireless dongle for my Logitech mouse. It’s L-shaped, slotting into a USB-C port but sticking up ever so slightly vertically, rather than out horizontally, to keep it flush when plugged into a laptop (though it does stick out just enough to make sure the laptop lid won’t hit it on the way down!). Sandisk describes it as a “leave-in design,” suggesting you can use it as a permanent-ish storage upgrade for your PC. You’ll want to be careful when lugging your laptop around though — the thin design should reduce the risk of the drive catching on other objects and snapping in the process, but USB-C connectors are fragile, and not designed to withstand much force in that direction. It’s available in 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB versions, though it’s that high capacity model that stands out. It uses USB 3.2 Gen 1, with transfer speeds of up to 400MB/s (or 300MB/s on the 64GB model) — it’s no speed demon, though that’s hardly the point. If you don’t need the full terabyte, Suneast released an even smaller equivalent in May, which caps at 512GB — but it’s only available in Japan. Sandisk’s model, on the other hand, is available to order now in the US and elsewhere, starting at $15.99 for 64GB and rising to $117.99 for 1TB. Correction, November 11th: Updated headline to reflect that it’s a flash drive, not an SSD.
