3 ways NotebookLM’s flashcards and quizzes help me remember more of what I need

Every time I finish an article, I tell myself I’ll remember the key points. A little later, I have already forgotten the details, and I’m lucky if the title sticks. NotebookLM’s flashcards and quizzes are how I finally stopped pretending I would “just remember” and started checking what actually stuck....

NotebookLM’s flashcards and quizzes are how I finally stopped pretending I would “just remember” and started checking what actually stuck. There are times when I only remember the headline and random examples, and the rest is a blur.

The free Photoshop alternative that Adobe didn’t see coming

Most Photoshop replacements make big promises but collapse as soon as you push them past the basics. Affinity’s new app isn’t like that. It’s the exact same thing as Affinity Photo, one of the top photo and graphics editors out there, just repackaged. You’re getting all the same tools, layout,...

It’s the exact same thing as Affinity Photo, one of the top photo and graphics editors out there, just repackaged. You’re getting all the same tools, layout, and flow that everyone already trusts. Except, it’s free now.

Nobody can decide if Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an indie game or not

If one game has dominated more conversations than anything else in 2025, it's definitely Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from Sandfall Interactive. As the awards season draws near, the discourse about the game has lingered among those looking to debate which games were the best of the year. But one topic that has constantly put everyone at odds is whether Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an indie game or not. The controversy comes from it being nominated for various indie honors at events like The Game Awards, which many feel is not right. And the real cause of that is because everyone can't decide whether Sandfall Interactive's title is a true indie game compared to the rest of the competition.

I stopped water-cooling my gaming PC, and I don’t miss it

It's been the better part of a decade since I designed and built my last custom liquid cooled PC. I've still got it, in a box in the garage, as a reminder of projects that weren't always fully completed, hard-learned skills, and a community I'm still part of to this...
It's been the better part of a decade since I designed and built my last custom liquid cooled PC. I've still got it, in a box in the garage, as a reminder of projects that weren't always fully completed, hard-learned skills, and a community I'm still part of to this day. Just because I have no inclination to make my own custom PCs, I still love seeing what the newcomers to the scene are making, and the easier access to CNC machining, 3D printing, and other manufacturing tools has pushed the field forward.

You don’t need to pay for Notion: This open-source tool is faster, offline, and free

I hit my breaking point using Notion again with a client who insisted on sticking to it. Not because it's bad — it's genuinely powerful — but because they were paying for features I'd touch maybe twice a year. Worse, every time I opened a database-heavy page, I'd watch the...

Not because it's bad — it's genuinely powerful — but because they were paying for features I'd touch maybe twice a year. Worse, every time I opened a database-heavy page, I'd watch the loading spinner for what felt like an eternity.

This is an excerpt of Sources by Alex Heath, a newsletter about AI and the tech industry, syndicated just for The Verge subscribers once a week.Reinforcement learning (RL) is the next frontier, Google is surging, and the party scene has gotten completely out of hand. Those were the through lines from this year's NeurIPS in San Diego.NeurIPS, or the "Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems," started in 1987 as a purely academic affair. It has since ballooned alongside the hype around AI into a massive industry event where labs come to recruit and investors come to find the next wave of AI startups.I was regretfully unable to …Read the full story at The Verge.

Don’t get too excited, but Xbox 360 games may be coming to PC, says leaker

As a kid, I always wondered why Microsoft had titles on Xbox but not Windows, and vice versa. It just made sense to me that the company would release games on both systems, because it's all the same company at the end of the day.
