One of the biggest wins for Microsoft Teams is that it's easy to use, but you still need to know some of the important tricks for flawless communication. However, since Microsoft keeps updating Teams with new features and improvements, you also need to keep learning about those to get the best experience. And the best part is that Microsoft is quite open about telling the world what Teams features it's currently working on and when to expect them.

Repurposing old PC components with 4 creative projects

If you're upgrading your PC, chances are you now have some older, spare components lying around. While you can toss these in the recycling bin to get rid of them, sell them, or pass them on to a friend or family member who could use some new hardware, those options...
If you're upgrading your PC, chances are you now have some older, spare components lying around. While you can toss these in the recycling bin to get rid of them, sell them, or pass them on to a friend or family member who could use some new hardware, those options just aren't enjoyable and, in some cases, may be difficult. Not all recycling centers will take old PSUs, after all.

Someone took the LEGO Game Boy and made it actually playable, and I’m stunned

Back in January of this year, Lego released a new Game Boy. Well, it technically released one, because the Game Boy in question wasn't functional. It was just a kit you could use to construct a Game Boy that looked the part, but when it came to playing Pokémon Blue...

It was just a kit you could use to construct a Game Boy that looked the part, but when it came to playing Pokémon Blue on it, there were no electronics within it. It was just a standard Lego kit.

Acer’s latest Spin 514 is so close to Chromebook greatness

Acer has made many Spin-series Chromebooks before, and despite flaws, this is one of its best yet. I was cautiously optimistic about Acer's Chromebook Plus Spin 514 when I tested a preproduction model last month, but the final unit is here now and it sticks the landing. Well, mostly. Acer's...

Well, mostly.Acer's latest convertible Chromebook has zippy performance and oodles of battery life, along with a good touchscreen with stylus support. China’s so-called “IPv9” has a long, complicated history

In the early 2000s, the alarm bells had already been sounded for approximately a decade that IPv4 addresses were running out. In the early 2000s, the alarm bells had already been sounded for approximately a decade that IPv4 addresses were running out. Its 4.3 billion possible addresses, considered unimaginably large, suddenly looked very finite, and the standardization of IPv6 was a process undergone from the mid 1990s up until its publication in 1998. Yet just a few years later, in the mid 2000s, rumors circulated that China was working on IPv9. The problem, though, was that no international body recognized it, and it seemed drastically different from the rest of the wider internet.

A mini PC is the perfect “sandbox” machine for risky software experiments

My job involves testing a lot of software, many times whole new operating systems. I've also been fortunate enough to review quite a few mini PCs I still have lying around, and because of that, I have a lot of choice when the time comes to test this software.

I used NotebookLM to organize my digital book collection, and the results were immediate

If you have a digital library, you know the struggle: a growing mountain of PDFs, research papers, and ebooks scattered across folders and cloud drives. It doesn’t feel like a library since you can’t find what you need when you need it. I was tired of spending more time hunting...

It doesn’t feel like a library since you can’t find what you need when you need it. I was tired of spending more time hunting for that perfect quote than actually using my knowledge.

After getting off the phone with Oregon Governor Tina Kotek on Saturday, the president mused over something that had baffled him about the call. Kotek had been "very nice," said Trump in an interview the next day. But she was trying hard to convince him not to send in the National Guard, and that just didn't make any sense to him. "But I said, 'Well wait a minute, am I watching things on television that are different from what's happening?'" Hours later, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a memorandum federalizing 200 members of Oregon's National Guard to deploy to Portland, and the state of Oregon promptly filed suit to stop it from ha …Read the full story at The Verge.

The way we search for information has changed, and it's only set to expedite as we move into the world of artificial intelligence. We've seen this already with the more popular search engines favoring AI-powered results over traditional lists, which have the goal to provide accurate information at a glance, instead of requiring us to visit websites to find the desired information. It sounds good on paper, but this takes power out of our hands and places a little too much on the plate of software. Trusting algorithms to work out which websites provide the highest quality is one thing.

PC gaming has long been at the forefront of pushing the boundaries when it comes to performance, choice, and innovations. We've seen all the vintage packaging that graphics cards and other PC parts used to be shipped within, but the actual hardware was also fairly experimental for its time. Building a new system or upgrading a specific part, such as the aforementioned GPU, never used to cost an arm and a leg, but times have most certainly changed since the days of ATI and Nvidia. We're now experiencing platform lock-in, rising costs, and creep control. Nvidia has the upper hand when it comes to software and flagship hardware, but AMD has made ground and continues to try and undercut the competition.
