Inkscape is a multifaceted open-source creative tool. You might consider Inkscape as the best alternative to Adobe Illustrator, but it stands as its own great tool, even without comparison. There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to Inkscape’s capabilities, and the project types you can use Inkscape for feel almost endless. You might not consider using it for more out-of-the-box creative projects initially. Still, Inkscape is my go-to for various projects for which I might’ve previously used multiple programs to get my final results. Keep all your projects within the same tool for an easier life by using Inkscape for each.

I was unhappy with the Outlook app built into Windows 11 and switched to the privacy-first email client Proton Mail. At first, I only used the free version of Proton Mail and Calendar, but I decided to upgrade to the rest of the Proton ecosystem with Drive, Docs, VPN, and Pass. I now have an unlimited subscription, which offers more storage in Proton Drive and additional features in the other apps.

I turned a Raspberry Pi into a DNS server for my home network, and it’s so useful

DNS is something you rarely think about or change in your internet connection. I was naive, too, and thought that merely changing it on my Windows PC would boost my connection. However, I didn't think deeply about the repercussions of not using a central DNS server with HTTPS until a few months back. When I learnt about the usefulness of creating a home DNS server with something as inexpensive as a Raspberry Pi, I pondered the time I would have saved in downloading ad blockers or hiding my web activities from the snoopy Internet Service Providers (ISPs).

Nintendo expects the Switch 2 to be just as successful as the original

Nintendo has forecast global sales of 15 million Switch 2 consoles by the end of March 2026, which would be roughly comparable to the original Switch’s first year on sale, despite retailing for a much higher price. The company suffered an expected slump in both hardware and software sales this year, according to its latest earnings release, and will be hoping for a bumper year ahead. The Switch 2 launches on June 5th, so will have 10 months on sale to hit that forecast, with Nintendo also expecting to sell 45 million Switch 2 games in the same period. It’s not written its older console off though, and is expecting to shift another 4.5 million Switch consoles and over 100 million games in the year ahead, down from 10.8 million and 155 million of each last year. The first Switch launched in March 2017, at the tail end of a fiscal year, so direct sales comparisons are tricky. It sold 17.79 million units worldwide in its first 13 months on sale — comfortably more than Nintendo’s forecasts at the time — so Nintendo is expecting sales in the same ballpark this time around. The Switch has sold more than 150 million units over its lifetime, and is close to overtaking the DS as Nintendo’s best selling console ever.Nintendo might be hedging its Switch 2 sales estimate, however, given the uncertainties with tariffs in the all-important US market. We’ve already seen that Switch 2 demand is higher than the company may have expected, despite widespread complaints about the $449.99 price tag. When US preorders finally began — delayed in the wake of Trump’s tariffs, amid fears that the price would climb even higher — they sold out almost immediately. Meanwhile the company put out a supply warning in Japan after receiving 2.2 million applications for preorders, which Nintendo said “far exceeds our expectations.”

Over the course of my self-hosting journey, I’ve encountered a diverse set of applications, each fulfilling its unique role in my rat’s nest of a home lab. There’s my gaming suite, which encompasses everything from Minecraft servers running on my NAS to the Apollo+Artemis combo on my gaming rig. I’ve also got my Raspberry Pi-powered productivity server that rivals Office 365’s offerings without forcing me to pay monthly subscription fees. Likewise, I’ve configured a handful of virtual machines and containers for my coding projects and media consumption needs.

Lenovo's Legion 9i was already the cream of the crop when it comes to high-end gaming laptops, and the next generation is pushing the envelope even further. Announced at Lenovo's Tech World event in Shanghai, the 10th-generation Legion 9i comes packed with the most powerful laptop hardware money can buy, including a mobile RTX 5090, Core Ultra 9 275HX, and up to 192GB of DDR5 memory. This generation, however, Lenovo also decided to pack in an optional 3D display with built-in eye tracking and a lenticular lens array.

Tesla finally calls it quits on Cybertruck range extender

Tesla has officially scrapped the range extender accessory it was making for Cybertrucks. In emails seen by Electrek, Tesla confirmed to Cybertruck owners that it’s “no longer planning to sell” the $16,000 battery pack, and that it would be issuing full refunds for the $2,000 deposit put down by customers. The range extender would have taken up around half of the Cybertruck’s rear bed space, and Tesla initially promised that it would give the dual-motor Cybertruck an estimated total range of 470 miles. That estimate was downgraded to 445 miles in 2024, alongside the original release date of “early 2025” being bumped back to “mid-2025.”Official confirmation of its cancellation follows Tesla quietly removing the range extender from the Cybertruck online configurator last month, preventing interested consumers from putting down a deposit for the unreleased accessory. The battery pack was intended to address disappointment over production versions of the electric pickup. When the tri-motor Cybertruck was announced in 2019, Tesla said it would cost about $70,000 and sport a range of more than 500 miles. The final version’s $99,990 price and 301-mile range fell short of that, as did the $79,990 dual-motor AWD model, with a 325-mile range. Tesla says its entry-level $69,990 Long Range Cybertruck can drive up to 362 miles on a charge. This is the latest in a string of bad developments for Tesla. 35,000 – 50,000 Cybertruck units were sold in 2024 compared to the “over 1 million” people that Elon Musk said had reserved the vehicle the year prior, and sales across the Tesla lineup fell a staggering 13 percent year over year in the first quarter of 2025 amid protests and boycotts over Musk meddling in US and global politics.

Lenovo’s flagship gaming laptop has a 2D / 3D screen and carbon fiber lid

Lenovo is announcing a new 10th-generation Legion 9i gaming laptop coming soon to China and scheduled for the fall in North America. The 18-inch behemoth is packed with top-end specs, including the option for a 4K-capable 2D / 3D screen, Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU, Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, up to 192GB of RAM, and 8TB of SSD storage. How much will an over-the-top configuration like that cost? Nobody can say, as Lenovo isn’t talking pricing at all yet — not even the starting price for the base model with a 4K, non-3D screen. But when the time comes you won’t have to rely solely on Lenovo to build the configuration to your liking, as the four RAM slots and four SSD slots are user-accessible.The optional 2D / 3D LCD can display 3840 x 2400 resolution at up to 240Hz in 2D mode or 1920 x 1200 in 3D mode. The screen also has a dual mode akin to the Razer Blade 18, allowing up to an ultra-fast 440Hz when displaying 2D content in 1920 x 1080. Viewing 3D content on the Legion 9i’s screen doesn’t require glasses, as it uses eye-tracking and a lenticular lens array to appear 3D to the naked eye. Lenovo says the Legion 9i is designed for game developers, visual artists, and 3D professionals as well as spendy gamers. In addition to displaying 3D content and renders, Lenovo says its software supports 30 games playable in 3D. We have reached out to Lenovo for a list of compatible games, but did not receive an answer by time of publication. As you’d expect from a desktop replacement-class laptop, the Legion 9i has a bunch of ports, including two Thunderbolt 5 ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 2 (three Type-A and one Type-C), an ethernet port, HDMI 2.1, and even a full-size SD card slot. For connectivity, it’s got Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support. If you go for the 2D screen the 5-megapixel webcam has an f/2 aperture, though the 3D screen option comes with a faster f/1.6 lens — and both webcams feature a kill switch on the side of the laptop for privacy. The laptop itself has a pretty unique look thanks to its carbon fiber lid. Lenovo says each Legion 9i’s lid is made from eight layers of carbon fiber, making it “lighter and stronger than aluminum.” But any weight savings aside, the coolest aspect of this carbon fiber creation is the visible pattern on the lid — which Lenovo says is slightly different and one-of-a-kind on each unit.We may not know how much the Legion 9i costs just yet, but that lid instantly makes it one of the most interesting jumbo-sized gaming laptops in my book. At least, as far as ones not adorned with dragons go.

If you've been up to date with your Microsoft news, you'll know that the company recently reported that its Copilot user count has plateaued. The service attracts 20 million users a week, which sounds impressive on paper; however, given how ChatGPT garners 400 million users a week, you can see how things pale in comparison. Not only that, but given how roughly 1.5 billion users use Windows, and Copilot now comes as default with Windows 10 and 11, you'd think that number would be a tad higher. But it's not going up.

These mistakes aren't always written about in articles about annoying PC mistakes, which is why many users are still guilty of them in 2025.

When a device connects to your home local area network (LAN), it is provided an internet protocol (IP) address, which allows all other devices (and external servers) to send and receive data without mistakenly communicating with some other device on the network. A router will usually use the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server to assign dynamic IP addresses to devices on the network. A static IP address is a device that wants the same IP address when communicating with the DHCP server.
